Bonus Podcasters, everyone. Great to have you with us.
David Lutteral (0:10)
I see Andrew Johns is copping a bit of flack there.
Susie O'Neill (0:12)
Why?
Kip Wightman (0:13)
Because he lives in the Eastern Suburbs and they won? I saw they were like going outside his house and stuff, because he's a Knights guy.
Susie O'Neill (0:18)
Nah.
David Lutteral (0:19)
Just because, you know, apparently they, Channel 9 gave him the option of a Knight off, so he could just fully soak in the emotion of the Grand Final. We went, no, I want to commentate. And then apparently they're saying he was just...
Kip Wightman (0:29)
He was so shit.
David Lutteral (0:30)
Like a broken record.
Kip Wightman (0:31)
He was so crap.
David Lutteral (0:32)
I couldn't really hear it that well, because I was at a party.
Kip Wightman (0:34)
You know, one of the things he said at one stage, I swear, he goes, somebody just needs to do something. That was one of his lines. And we're like, okay. And then he would just bag out, oh, the Knights, they're on their feet here. Oh God. Oh, they're on their feet. Oh, what are they doing? It was just a lie.
Susie O'Neill (0:47)
Is on the feet bad? I don't know if you heard that. Anyway, it doesn't matter.
Kip Wightman (0:49)
It was basically just because he was such a fan. He was kind of like, you know, when fans get annoyed at their team, and they do anything wrong, it was that kind of vibe. Billy Slater, who was in the commentary box and set at Cam Smith, did not add a lot.
Susie O'Neill (1:00)
Didn't he?
Kip Wightman (1:01)
No, normally Billy's great, but Billy didn't speak as much in that. I didn't think anyway.
David Lutteral (1:05)
Because he doesn't give a shit about the Roosters or the Knights, probably.
Kip Wightman (1:10)
The stadium was loud, though.
David Lutteral (1:13)
Was it?
Kip Wightman (1:13)
Oh, yeah. I saw some people who were there saying that was the loudest they've ever heard it, because the Newcastle fans were just going nuts.
Couldn't have been the Roosters fans, there was 20 there.
Susie O'Neill (1:24)
I only watched the first half. I was keen to watch the pregame entertainment.
Kip Wightman (1:28)
Yes.
Susie O'Neill (1:29)
Oh, it wasn't that.
Kip Wightman (1:30)
Can we talk about that?
Susie O'Neill (1:31)
Well, I thought Amy was very good, her singing.
Kip Wightman (1:34)
Really?
Susie O'Neill (1:34)
I thought her voice and singing was very good. Yes. I'm not going to say that much.
David Lutteral (1:38)
What's your criticism then?
Kip Wightman (1:40)
It was like a funeral.
Susie O'Neill (1:41)
It was a bit funeral-y. They were wheeling Jye around. I felt sorry for Jye.
David Lutteral (1:44)
So did I a little bit.
Susie O'Neill (1:46)
So did I. And the wallaby that they chucked in there with him. I know. That was ridiculous. It was a wallaby. He's just been diagnosed as well.
David Lutteral (1:52)
It was just a bit.
Kip Wightman (1:53)
Apparently, what Jye got told they were doing something for him, he didn't really have a choice in the matter. It was like, hey, mate, we're doing this for you. So he didn't really know. And then he's sitting on that friggin motorbike.
David Lutteral (2:00)
He wanted to pump up the crowd. The crowd thought they had to have a minute's silence almost. Like that was a bit strange.
Susie O'Neill (2:05)
It was. And he's going around the stadium.
David Lutteral (2:07)
I felt a bit sorry for him.
Kip Wightman (2:08)
And then Amy got on the bike and started like driving it.
David Lutteral (2:10)
I don't understand what was happening there either.
Susie O'Neill (2:12)
It was bizarre.
David Lutteral (2:12)
It was a bit strange. You're right, actually.
Kip Wightman (2:14)
I thought they missed the mark completely.
Susie O'Neill (2:15)
I like the song and the music.
David Lutteral (2:17)
That was OK. I wasn't underwhelmed by that.
Susie O'Neill (2:20)
It was just. They sounded good. I think because it was a white motorcycle, for some reason that made it worse for me.
David Lutteral (2:26)
It did feel a little bit morbid.
Kip Wightman (2:29)
It was a red motorcycle. Susie approves.
Susie O'Neill (2:31)
No, it's like one. For some reason the white was a bit. Oh, it's like White Ladies. I didn't think it was White Ladies.
David Lutteral (2:35)
Why do I agree with you? I actually thought of that as well.
Kip Wightman (2:38)
Because that Phil Jamison, you know, came out from Grinspoon.
