A funny thing happened to me on the way to the studio, which is why I've ended up on the set of Braveheart, Mark 2 But there have been funny things happening all week. First, there was the plot to bomb the Royal Air Force base at Fairford that turned out to be not a plot at all.

Although Rubio and Trump are still claiming that it is and Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of Britain, in a live legal case has linked Iran to a plot that wasn't a plot, a bomb that wasn't a bomb, and four white van men seem to be involved. And then, there is the 9-11 that never was. You know, the one where, as they do, hundreds of Israelis were flying on, fly Dubai as they do from Dubai to Tel Aviv, where one pilot stabbed another pilot, the plane plunged almost to the ground, and then, hey, the passengers broke the door down to get into the cockpit, which is technically impossible. I'll explain my presence on the set of Braveheart or Rob Roy McGregor later in the show. It is a fascinating example of kismet, of nasib, of destiny. You see, I almost didn't have a studio at all until I met in the street a Scottish imam whose great-great-grandfather was one of the first sergeant majors in the British Army occupying the Western Cape. It's an amazing story. I'll tell it to you later because there are even more amazing stories that I have to tell you first.

You'll recall that you woke up at the weekend with the story breaking that a major terrorist plot to bomb the Royal Air Force Base at Fairford, but it's not really a Royal Air Force Base. It's a US. Air Force Base in the English countryside from which Iran and other countries have been remorselessly bombed in the kind of bombings that you saw. Kill the leader of Iran. Kill hundreds of schoolgirls, volleyball girls, children on the way to school, doctors, teachers, you know. That's where that Air Force Base's product ends up. So quite clearly, RAF Fairford is a part of the war against Iran. And well, as they say, Iran has the right to defend itself. But it turned out that the so-called plot to bomb RAF Fairford was so heinous and so complex that the five men arrested were all freed on police bail. Police bail means you don't even have to go to court to ask for the bail. The police agree to the bail without any judge being involved, which usually means you've stolen a packet of crisps from the local supermarket. Certainly not that you've been involved in a major international terrorist plot in the middle of a war to bomb the United States Air Force Base. So plainly, the five men arrested were not terrorists. If they were, they wouldn't have been given bail. They wouldn't have been given police bail. And of course, when the vans were searched, I think there were two, but there may have been three, although there's a great deal of confusion about just how many men there were, just how many vans there were, and what was in the van. We were treated by the media to the sight of barrels, oil barrels, lying outside the vans, and we were invited to believe that these barrels were packed with explosives, but they were packed with something which nowadays is almost as valuable as that, red diesel. And speculation immediately grew that these were not international terrorists. They were all British citizens. They were all from London. Some of them quite nice parts of London at that. That they may have merely been thieves, given that you need to donate your liver for a transplant in order to buy a van load of diesel these days. It's a valuable product worth stealing if you are a thief. But even that has begun to fade as a story, because frankly, they used as much diesel with those big vans going all the way from their London addresses to Fairford as they appear to have stolen. But that's not the only incongruity. Donald Trump said that these men had been being tracked by American intelligence for a long time. He repeated that thrice, for a long time. These were serious people, he said subsequently. Seriously, bad people. They were being tracked by the CIA for a long time, which either means the CIA and the FBI or the Keystone cops revisited and they were tracking diesel thieves or petty criminals of another kind, or these men are not, as we now infer from the police bill, are indeed persons of interest to the intelligence community. That latter theory is buttressed by the British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who said just 24 hours before that there should be no speculation that the police inquiries should be allowed to follow their own course, they should be allowed to take their course, and that nobody should be speculating until today, when as Prime Minister of Britain, he didn't just speculate, he attributed a conspiracy to the men. He said that it was likely and that there was strong evidence that Iran was connected to these scenes you're seeing on the screen behind me. Well, if Iran was connected to the scenes you're watching behind me, that means these men were not just involved in a terrorist plot but an international terrorist plot against Great Britain, the United States, and inspired by, conspired by the Islamic Republic of Iran, which would be a logical inference, except that none of the men are being held in custody. All of the men are walking freely among us. They might be right next to you, right now. You might have met them in the supermarket this afternoon. You might have met them in the pub or in a local cafe. You might be working beside them, studying beside them. Something doesn't add up. Now we've got Marco Rubio, Donald Trump and Andy Burnham, all pointing to foreign actors. I don't know if they meant Jim Carrey, given how dumb and dumber all of this has become. But if they are being manipulated by foreign actors, that would begin to, I don't know, it would begin to be evocative of the Ukrainian rent boy story that you'll recall. That we never got to the bottom of. We were told by the BBC Panorama a story which Crispin Flintoff, our reporter in the courtroom, was able to debunk in a single podcast right after the verdict was reached. So, what's what? Who's who in this story? And is this all merely a flag? When I was young, we used to have flag days. This appears to have been a flag day. A flag that spanned all the way to the Saudi Arabian desert. A truly bizarre, I couldn't make up saga developed from early this morning. First of all, 150 Israeli tourists, Israeli tourists, which is apparently routine, were holidaying in the United Arab Emirates and were flying on Fly Dubai back from Dubai to Tel Aviv, when the most extraordinary thing happened. Even more extraordinary than the story that leads me here to this studio.
