Hi, everyone. Welcome to a holiday weekend edition of Bloomberg Businessweek, and happy Fourth of July.
It is, of course, a big one. It's the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. While many of us are taking some time to unplug, there were some big stories this past week that we should point out, consequential decisions from the US Supreme Court, peace talks to end the US and Iran war continuing, and a big read on the US economy with the US Monthly Jobs Report, out just before heading into the long holiday weekend.

**Tim Stenovec** (1:05)
We wrapped up the second quarter in the first half of the trading year, with the S&P 500 having its best quarter, going back to 2020, and semiconductor stocks having their best quarter ever. You can read all about the market action at bloomberg.com and always on the Bloomberg terminal. For us, this hour, we are leaning fully into the summer season. Why not? It's hot outside.

**Carol Massar** (1:26)
It's official, man. Be careful outside. It is really hot.

**Tim Stenovec** (1:29)
Well, on that, we kick it off by hitting the trails. AllTrails CEO, Liz Hamrin, joins us to talk about the massive boom in outdoor recreation and how technology is changing the way that we navigate the great outdoors. There's a little tension there, right?

**Carol Massar** (1:41)
Yeah.

**Tim Stenovec** (1:41)
You brought this up.

**Carol Massar** (1:42)
What?

**Tim Stenovec** (1:42)
We want to get away from our phones, but they also help us get out there.

**Carol Massar** (1:45)
Plus, if your idea of July 4th weekend is less about hiking and more about staying poolside with an incredible meal, well, we've got you covered as well. Later on this hour, legendary chef, Ruthie Rogers, joins us to talk about food culture and her new book, Table Four at the River Cafe.
Then we jump into the business of pools with Latham Group CEO, Sean Gad. He talks about the state of the consumer and also why fiberglass pools are becoming the ultimate hot weather home upgrade.

**Tim Stenovec** (2:15)
And finally, no summer weekend is complete without the perfect beach read. We sit down with the acclaimed novelist, Teddy Wayne, to talk about his new literary thriller, The Au Pair, which is generating major buzz as this season's must read, Page Turner.

**Carol Massar** (2:29)
It is indeed. All that to come, we begin with a look at the great outdoors. Hiking has seen a surge in interest in recent years and driving that wonderful discovery could be the tech in our pockets.

**Tim Stenovec** (2:40)
That brings us to all trails. Liz Hamrin wants you to go take a hike. She's the CEO of the hiking app All Trails. She joined us along with Adam Thompson, Bloomberg Pursuit senior editor. He was one of the editors on our great Bloomberg Pursuits piece, How to See the Most Popular US. National Parks Without the Crowds.

**Adam Thompson** (2:58)
We knew that this was going to be a really busy year at national parks. Every year is busy. They get over 320 million people a year, 320 million visitors. And this year felt like it was going to be even higher between the fact that airfares are high, so people are thinking about staying closer to home, and the fact that there's a lot of America 250 things going on. Add to that the fact that there's some cutbacks at the parks, so there's a little extra level of chaos there. So we thought that there was a lot of chance that people would be coping with crowds at the most popular parks, and we wanted to come up with a way to give them lots of alternatives on ways to enjoy the parks without running into everybody they know.

**Carol Massar** (3:39)
Well, funnily enough, a lot of us want to put this down, but you can also use it to kind of decompress and go on a hike. Liz, come on in on. Tell us a little bit about the platform, the growth that you've seen, and the activity that you're seeing as of late in terms of what people want to do.

**Liz Hamrin** (3:54)
Yeah, well, all trails, our mission is to help the world find its way outside.
And with our app, you can search over 500,000 global trails, and on those trails, you can read community reviews. So that helps you just find the perfect trail for you. And in addition, we have tools that help you plan, they help you navigate, and just help you enjoy your time outside.
