October 13, 2026

Glenn explains how socialism is like a charming but dangerous boyfriend, which always ends in disaster. Why do socialists think socialism will end differently this time when it’s always failed?

You know what socialism is?

A boyfriend, a dirtbag boyfriend that your daughter brings home, and you're like, honey, you're worth so much more than this. It's not going to end well. Why do you keep bringing the same guy to the door? You're worth more than this. I'll show you how socialism is that deadbeat boyfriend. Also, did you know the first lady of New York is an artist? Oh, she's a great artist, and you should see some of her hero artists. We're going to talk about that. David Steinberg also joins us on Ilhan Omar, the latest. And don't forget, tomorrow, on Tomorrow's Program, we have John Solomon.

He is the guy who runs Just the News. He's probably the best button-up journalist out there. He's going to bring us all the inside news on what The Warrant was all about and everything that is going on in Washington with that case. That's on Tomorrow's Program, but here is today's podcast.

So NBC just put out a poll. And among voters under 30, the share with a positive view of socialism has climbed from 28% in 2018 to 42%. Wow. The share of a negative view of capitalism more than doubled from 22% to 47%. Now, I'm not gonna yell at that, because I mean, been there, done that. Okay.

Here's what I wanna do.

If you're 23 and you have watched, you know, rent, eat your paycheck. If you've been told, you know, a house is something that your parents got and you're just not going to, if groceries cost more every time you go, and somebody comes along and said, you know, it doesn't have to be this way, let's try something new, you would listen, you would listen. Okay. The problem is, what many people who are 23 years old, don't understand is, it's not a new thing. Let's try something new. It's not new. I'm open to new things. Okay. The people selling this, they know that. So they have an answer ready. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Soviet Union, it was a disaster. Yeah, I know. Mao, Mao, Mao. Cambodia, Cuba. You just name, you go down the list. I know, but that wasn't real socialism. Those leaders went bad. Okay. This time we're going to have better people, better safeguards, a better plan. Uh-huh.

You might have heard this speech before.

Let me give you the same thing in a different scenario, because your friend or somebody you know gives you this same speech every time she defends the loser she's dating. You know the guy, no job, lives in his parents' basement, can't afford a car, has no future. Showers on holidays, maybe, not on Flag Day, but the big ones, showers on holidays, you know. And she says, you just don't know him like I do. He's got such good ideas. He's so good as a person. He's got a bright future. I can fix him.

Every girl that guy has ever dated said exactly the same thing. And every one of those relationships ended with a box of his stuff on the front lawn, okay? Socialism is that boyfriend, charming, a little rebellious. Your parents probably don't like him, talks beautifully about fairness. And there's always an excuse for the last breakup.

Wrong leader, wrong country, not enough money, foreign interference. It's never his fault, never his fault. So let me introduce you to his ex-girlfriends, okay? The Soviet Union. Soviet Union took the farm from the farmers and millions starved in the early 1930s. By the secret police's own records, about 680,000 people were shot in just two years of purges. In China, Mao's Great Leap Forward produced what may be the deadliest famine in human history. Tens of millions dead in that one, and that's not to mention the estimated 50 to 90 million people dead under Mao because he shot them, killed them one way or another. In Cambodia, the communists abolished money, because money was the problem. They emptied the cities and in four years, roughly one out of every four Cambodians was dead. It's called the killing fields. Now, that's your grandparents' history. Those are the ones that our grandparents might have dated and the rest of the world went, don't date him. No, that's a really bad idea. It's not gonna end well. So let's look at your boyfriends. Venezuela. Venezuela sits on the largest proven oil reserves on the planet, bigger than Saudi Arabia. Should be one of the richest countries on earth. At one time was the second richest in the hemisphere. Then Hugo Chavez took over. Famous, smart Americans all lined up to applaud. This is socialism done right. Finally, socialism. They elected him. Democratic election for the people. Then came the takeovers and the price controls. The government telling stores what they could charge, so the stores stopped stocking the shelves because they couldn't afford it. In 2017, a survey by Venezuela's top universities found two out of three people had lost weight that year. When I say lost weight, I'm not talking about a diet. They lost an average, the average person, 24 pounds. Not a diet, starvation. The next year, the country's own central bank put inflation at more than 130,000 percent. You think inflation is bad here? Hey, let's try socialism. Nearly eight million people fled the country. Now, defenders will tell you it was American sanctions that did that. Yeah. Unfortunately, we have something called a calendar. Let's look at the calendar. Let's check the dates. The shortage, the shortages, the following oil production, the bread lines, all of it was underway before the major sanctions began in 2017 The boyfriend was broke before anyone cut up his credit card. Okay? Different countries, different cultures, different leaders. Same ending. Why? What do they all have in common? Karl Marx gave out the ending himself. In the Communist Manifesto, he admitting getting there would take, in his words, despotic inroads on the rights of property. He promised force would be needed, but only temporary. Oh, okay. Well, it never is, you know? And here's why, because humans are humans. We're all alike. When you take a man's farm, he doesn't like it. When you take a man's house, he doesn't like it. He doesn't like the results. And so he resists these kinds of things. Okay? It's never temporary.
