When Marvin Harris arrived in Arizona, he had one request, a seeker machine, which is essentially a robotic quarterback that runs about $50,000. The organization declined. Here's former Bingo's head coach, Marvin Lewis, adding some context to that decision. Here's Marvin talking about that.

SPEAKER_2 (0:22)

I had something there.

Shannon Sharpe (0:24)

Yeah, go ahead, Marvin.

SPEAKER_3 (0:24)

Their director of sports performance, their director of sports performance was with me in Cincinnati. And I was down in the field early, and Shay Thompson is his name. He comes out, and Marvin Harrison comes out, I mean, early. He's got his helmet. And he goes through a whole progression of things, to get himself warmed up, his body physically, and so forth.

And then I'm talking to Shay, and Shay tells me, this dude got one of those machines that can shoot him the ball.

The Cardinals didn't have one, so he bought his own. So he's catching under 200 balls every day after practice. So I think, like Chris just said, he's doing the right things. Now sometimes it's up to the coaching staff to figure out a way to get him the ball.

Shannon Sharpe (1:08)

That's what I'm saying. Hey.

Hey, you believe the Cardinals. You draft a guy with the fourth pick in the draft. You invest 40 million, 35, 40 million dollars in him. And you need to tell me on a 40 million dollar investment, you're not willing to invest another 50 million dollars?

50K? I mean 50, 50,000 dollars, excuse me, 50,000 bucks.

SPEAKER_2 (1:34)

For the machine?

Shannon Sharpe (1:36)

Yeah.

Chad Johnson (1:37)

Well, they didn't.

Shannon Sharpe (1:38)

But why don't they?

SPEAKER_2 (1:39)

So he ends up buying it himself.

Chad Johnson (1:43)

Yeah.

SPEAKER_2 (1:44)

Yeah.

Chad Johnson (1:44)

Hey, listen, we didn't pay you already now. If you want something else, you can go ahead and get that yourself. We got jug machines. Every NFL team has a jug machine on.

Shannon Sharpe (1:54)

But you don't, that made the jug machine, I don't even know if they still use jug machines. And then we flip it around, so we can spit out the ball, so we can catch the ball. But Ochoc, you know, and Joe, I don't know how you guys were, but all the equipment that they have, like in the training room, like a steel machine, a game ready, I bought that my own.

Yeah. So I would treat myself, I would get the treatment there, and I go home, eat, by the hour I would let you- Do it again. Get right back on it. Game ready, steel machine, all that stuff.

Yeah. I bought me a game ready too, but in the NBA, Ochoc, they will give you equipment to take home with you. They'll give you a game ready. Then when you heal up- Bring it back. You know what I'm saying? You gotta get it back. But at the same time, yeah, it may be some days, bro, you just might want to just get your normal tech or get the game ready. I got the normal techs too, Joe. Yeah, and in the summer. Normal techs, get you going on to keep the swelling, keep the circulation, yeah. Yeah. See, mainly it's good to have all that, especially in the summertime when you ain't in season, so you can still, you know, have your recovery options. I was a guy, I'm like that too, Unc. I had all that stuff, man. You name it, I had it, boy.

Chad Johnson (3:15)

Hey, man, y'all had all the cool gadgets and stuff.

Shannon Sharpe (3:19)

Yeah, man. Hey, I'm just trying to stay on the field. I'm just trying to be the best I possibly can be. Hello.

Ochocinco, I had hyperbaric chambers and everything in my crib, bro.

Chad Johnson (3:30)

Oh, boy, you bought one of them things too, boy?

Shannon Sharpe (3:32)

Come on, get in there, zip yourself up, take me up. Oh, yeah, all that.

Chad Johnson (3:36)

Hey, man, Lavernius Coles and Tio had that big ass shit in the dorm room in training camp. I'm like, man, what is y'all doing?

Shannon Sharpe (3:44)

Yeah, that was me. I used to go to them. Yeah, I mean, I would go to sleep. So I would go probably like around 1 o'clock, and I'd go to sleep in there for like an hour and a half, like three, four times a week.

Oh, yeah. Because back then, Joe, they're like more cost effective now. Back then, they was expensive as hell. They're like $100,000. I'm like, oh, no, I'll go ahead and buy me these. I'll spend $100 for these treatments.
