Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent just said, I am the house now. Bet against the Japanese yen, if you dare. That is a fantastic movie line. It is a slightly concerning thing to hear from the guy managing America's finances. Because when the government is the casino, whose money do you think is sitting on the table? And this gets better. Bitcoin investors are finding out that a company buying Bitcoin can have a very different set of incentives than the people buying its stock. Liquid has a hole in its Bitcoin backing and somehow threw all this. River has a model that reaches $840,000 per Bitcoin. We're gonna connect those dots because the difference between owning Bitcoin and owning somebody else's promise could become a very expensive lesson. Smash the like, subscribe if you're new, and lock in. It's go time, Sunday.

Whenever people say, oh, well, Treasury Secretary is taking a risk. Well, it's my dream. I have asymmetric information. I am the house now. So, right?
So, when we intervene with the Japanese Yen, I have pretty good insight into what the Japanese, what the Bank of Japan is going to do, what Japanese policymakers are going to do, and bet against me if you want.

There it is. The Treasury Secretary has entered his casino owner era. Next press conference, he's going to comp Japan a room and tell the bond market the buffet closes at 10 Okay, here is the actual news. At Southern Methodist University, Bessent described having an information advantage about Japanese policy and challenged traders betting against him. This follows coordinated American and Japanese support for the Yen. So, this is more than a spicy quote. Officials have already shown a willingness to intervene. Now, why should you care if you have never traded a Yen in your life?
Because somebody else may have borrowed a mountain of them to buy the assets sitting in your portfolio. The carry trade is simple enough. Borrow any currency with low interest rates, convert that money, buying something you hope earns more than the borrowing costs. Collect the difference. Congratulate yourself on being a financial genius until the currency you borrowed gets stronger. Imagine borrowing yen worth $100,000. If those same yen later cost $110,000 to buy back, your debt just became more expensive in dollar terms. Your investment needs to cover that currency hit plus interest. And if you're leveraged, your broker does not care about your beautiful five-year thesis. He wants collateral by lunch. That's how a currency move can become force selling somewhere else. Traders sell what they can to repay what they owe.
Bitcoin can get caught in that liquidation too. This is why I'm not calling Bessent's quote an automatic green candle. A stronger yen can hurt risk assets first. But listen to the attitude. The guy with the policy information is daring everyone else to take the other side. You spent the weekend drawing support lines. He spent the weekend talking to the people who can move the support lines. And that is the connection to Bitcoin.
Its monetary rules do not depend on whether Scottie B had a productive phone call with Tokyo. He can influence markets. He cannot call Bitcoin customer service and request another million coins. Unfortunately, putting Bitcoin on a company's website doesn't automatically give you that same protection. Which brings us to Metaplanet. An anonymous former shareholder, posting as Isabella Tres Santos, published a blistering criticism of the company and its executive compensation. They say they no longer own it and were not short when they wrote it. Their argument is that the Bitcoin story helped attract shareholders while an unusual option arrangement benefited insiders. We should take that seriously. We should also separate the filings from the author's accusations. Here is the structure. Metaplanet had an option plan dating from before its Bitcoin pivot. The potential share awards could expand as its capital base expanded. The exercise price was 10 yen a share. That matters because a growing option entitlement can cushion insiders against dilution while ordinary shareholders bear more of it. You think everybody is dividing the same pizza, then you discover somebody's slice adjusts automatically whenever you order another pizza. On August 18th, the company removed that adjustment mechanism, fixed the pool at roughly 319 million shares and added a five-year lockup. It says the options were paid for, approved by shareholders, and already included in its published fully diluted Bitcoin per share figures. That is the company's explanation and it belongs in the story. Jerovich has also acknowledged inadequate communication about the arrangement, so saying nobody has responded would now be wrong.
But a lockup does not erase dilution.
And publishing a number doesn't mean every investor understood how that number worked. The former shareholder estimates hundreds of millions of dollars in option value. That's an estimate of value, not proof that somebody pocketed that amount in cash. The claims about Dillon Leclerc's pay and people's motives need evidence beyond someone's essay. My criticism doesn't require a mind reader. Investors deserve to understand who benefits when more shares are sold if the sales pitch is Bitcoin scarcity.
