Hammer (0:00)
You're listening to The Hammer and Nigel Show.
Dan Levy (0:02)
Bar-Gu-Mits, Bar-Gu-Mits.
SPEAKER_3 (0:05)
Come on, everybody. Bar-Gu-Mits, Bar-Gu-Mits.
SPEAKER_4 (0:08)
Bar-Gu-Mits, Bar-Gu-Mits.
Nigel (0:14)
My name is Nigel.
Hammer (0:16)
Happy birthday to one Mr. Jason Allen Hammer right over there with a very special guest on the hotline.
SPEAKER_6 (0:22)
The man single-handedly saving the Bears for the state of Illinois, Dan Bass Levy. How are you another day? My friend, 49 years of God's green earth. I will take it. I'll take it.
Dan Levy (0:40)
I don't know what's going to keep the Bears in Illinois, but hopefully it happens.
SPEAKER_6 (0:44)
All right. So each week you come on here with a thing called Bar-Gu-Mits. If there's somebody listening for the first time here, tell us what Bar-Gu-Mits is.
Dan Levy (0:54)
Well, welcome into the Bar-Gu-Mits bar, if you will.
Bar-Gu-Mits is something that you kind of do with all your friends at some point or family, whether it's the Would You Rather, the Mount Rushmore, the GOAT. However, you kind of get down with those things. I made a podcast out of it. There's no real answer for it. Just a fun time. You can download the podcast anywhere you get podcasts. There's some fun YouTube videos and a really fun Facebook group. And I do like to come on this show Fridays and lob one at you guys. Ready for one?
SPEAKER_4 (1:26)
Do it. Let's go.
Dan Levy (1:27)
All right, fellas. What song could come on a jukebox in the middle of a bar fight and immediately ruin the entire fight?
SPEAKER_6 (1:37)
This is so good.
So you got testosterone going, you're smashing chairs, you're punching people, you're breaking glass. But then you hear something come on the jukebox and it just sucks the life right out of the room.
Dan Levy (1:52)
That would be it.
SPEAKER_6 (1:53)
Okay.
SPEAKER_4 (1:54)
All right.
Dan Levy (1:55)
That is it. It's hilarious.
Nigel (1:57)
Get us going, Dan.
Dan Levy (1:58)
The one that would have me stop and look up in the air would be the song by War called Why Can't We Be Friends?
SPEAKER_4 (2:12)
A couple of guys are punching each other.
Nigel (2:14)
Then they hear this. Some of those people are funny.
Hammer (2:21)
Like if they keep fighting.
Dan Levy (2:22)
I picture like in the Bronx Tale, you know, when they do the bar fire, he locks it in and says, now you can't leave. And then the fat guy does the whole, he does like that wrestling movie, smashes the guy into the jukebox. And then that song comes on and makes everybody stop.
SPEAKER_6 (2:36)
When I was the DJ at the casino in Shelbyville, whenever there was a fight on the casino floor, that was my go-to. I would play that song while the security would rush in.
Dan Levy (2:47)
Did it work? Did people go like, what is this guy doing? Or they were just pounding away?
SPEAKER_6 (2:50)
Like people would come by and laugh and give me a thumbs up. It's a great choice.
Nigel (2:56)
It certainly didn't escalate.
SPEAKER_6 (2:58)
Yeah, it didn't escalate the fight.
Dan Levy (3:00)
I like it.
SPEAKER_6 (3:02)
Miss Allison, what song would ruin the mood of a bar fight?
Allison (3:07)
Well, I chose an artist that brings people together either with joy or complete rage. And that is Taylor Swift.
Dan Levy (3:14)
Okay.
Allison (3:15)
And honestly, you could choose any of her songs and it would just ruin a fight. But this one, I think, I think takes the cake.
That's grown men are punching each other in the face. Or women for that matter.
SPEAKER_3 (3:32)
I feel a fight escalating from that song.
Hammer (3:36)
Yeah, hearing that song would enrage me.
SPEAKER_6 (3:38)
Yes, I'd be ready to calm down and then I'd hear that kick on and now I'm ready to throw hands again.
Allison (3:45)
Well, shake it off.
Dan Levy (3:47)
That DJ may get loose in a minute if I heard that song in the middle of a brawl.
SPEAKER_6 (3:52)
So Nigel, let's say that young Nigel is in broad ripple.
Hammer (3:56)
Seen plenty of bar fights in broad ripple in other places.
SPEAKER_6 (3:59)
Somebody bumps into your shoulder. It's go time. You start throwing haymakers. What's the song that comes on that ruins it all?
Hammer (4:07)
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Blue Oyster Bar from Police Academy.
SPEAKER_6 (4:16)
Also known as the Lude New Dude in the News Stave.
Hammer (4:20)
Remember this bass?
SPEAKER_3 (4:22)
Oh yes, it's one of my favorite scenes.
