My name is Jerm, this is Jerm Warfare, the battle of ideas. Jorge Besada, thank you for joining me again in the trenches.
Jorge Besada (0:39)
Hey, thanks for having me again, Jeremy.
Jeremy (0:42)
Yeah, I must tell you, I enjoy your take on a lot of things. And maybe it's because of your background, being Cuban.
Jorge Besada (0:54)
Yeah, I was born in Cuba, deep into a bad ideology, into an error, into communism, that lured a lot of very bright people into really screwing things up. And as we will discuss again, the same thing happened with Zionism. Lots of very smart people thought that this was the way to overcome anti-Semitism. And I mean, as I hope to explain here, I mean, I think Zionism is actually the worst ideology that mankind has come up with, even worse than communism.
And so, yeah. But all my, and I'm so lucky that you yourself, you ran into Ludwig von Mises, without his little bust here. I don't know if you can see him.
Jeremy (1:30)
Yeah, I can see it.
Jorge Besada (1:31)
Bust up Mises and, you know, whenever you scratch somebody who's really good on freedom, you know, that's what we all have in common, that we understand, you know, this great free marketeer. So yeah, I was born deep into communism, and here we are, you know, I left Cuba, and now I'm here in the US, and now we have to fight Zionism, because it's destroying the world in a way.
Jeremy (1:49)
So what's that, that gulf that's next to Cuba that Trump re-named? Is it the, what's it called now, the Gulf of America?
Jorge Besada (1:58)
Yeah, and I'm sure you heard that he now re-named Lake Ontario to Lake America or something.
Jeremy (2:04)
Yes. I'm hearing a dog.
Jorge Besada (2:07)
Yeah, sorry. Hopefully he'll shut up.
Jeremy (2:12)
Yeah, so I mean, so one of your strong talking points is Austrian economics, and I'm going to ask you about what that is in a moment, I'll say that I'm quite sympathetic to Austrian economics. I think for the longest time, I've founded one of the most persuasive outlooks on the world. And I don't know anything about economics, but that's the beauty of Austrian economics. It's not really about numbers.
It's about humans.
Jorge Besada (2:43)
Yeah, it's about decisions. You know, the Austrians, I mean, I don't know how much I'm going to regurgitate over our last talk, and I encourage people to look at it, but, you know, they just summarize, just summarize anyway.
So when one thinks about economics, there's many schools, there's like the Marxists, there's the Keynesians, you know, and the Austrians are the Chicago school, right? So the Austrians are really the people who got it right. If you ask Chad GTP or Grok AI, who were the economists who predicted the collapse of the Soviet Union, you know, who did the most to overcome socialism? All of the major AIs, they know, and they will tell you, it was the Austrian School of Economics, it was Ludwig von Mises and Friedrich Hayek, and these are the men who got it right.
So, I mean, these men are like, kind of like Galileo and Bruno, people who stumbled upon very important truths that the earth was not the center of the universe. That's what the Austrians are like. And it's great that right now, more and more people are sort of waking up to this. You know, Elon Musk is a big fan of the Austrians. You know, now we have Javier Millet, the president of Argentina, very tricky person as well. We had the Rompel revolution in the United States. You stumble upon the Austrians, the Baileys, you know, who everybody loves in the world of life, no germs and so on. They stumble upon the Austrians. There's so many people behind the scenes who are realizing that these men are the ones that explain how freedom really works. It is freedom and competition, right? Competition is what turns the entire planet into a supercomputer where entrepreneurs are motivated to innovate and to copy the innovations of others. And the government is just a competition immune coercive monopoly that destroys civilization. So the Austrians are the key. And I'm glad that their ideas are spreading. And one last thing I'll briefly throw in here that is very relevant to hopefully what we'll be talking about next is that the key Austrians after Mises died, who was one of like the badasses, you have 1974 Nobel Laureate in economics, Friedrich Hayek, and you have Mary Rothbard. And both of those intellectual giants, they both knew what a disaster the Israeli government was.
