All right, good morning, everybody. Welcome to the party. Today is Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 This is episode 1189 of Simply Cyber's Daily Cyber Threat Brief. I'm your host, Dr. Gerald Auger. Yeah, 1189 Hold on, the music in my ear is so loud, I can't even think. Guys, good morning. If you're looking to stay current on the top cyber news stories of the day while also being engaged, entertained, and building community, you're in the right place. We're going to go through eight stories in the next hour. You're going to get leveled up. We'll do an AMA at the end. Coffee will be flowing, Vegas will be bumping, and we're all going to have a good time. So get comfortable, get your coffee. Let's get going.
Let me see if I can change the song itself, maybe.
Get something a little like lower in my ear. Good morning, everybody. Day two in Vegas. We are illuminated. We have the Simply Cyber sign now. We got our audio visual sorted out. Shout out to James McQuiggan at 35,000 feet, who joined me in the studio yesterday afternoon to troubleshoot, get things sorted out. So it's a W. I'll talk about all the things from Vegas a little bit later in the program. But for now, I want to just say we got eight top stories. I haven't seen them in advance. I haven't researched or performed. We're going to go through them. You'll get the headline and the surface level story. Of course, like you would get anywhere else. And then the value of the show is we will go deeper. We'll go beyond those headlines. We'll give you insights that you won't get anywhere else. I have 20 plus years of experience. James McQuiggan has 20 plus years of experience. He's in the green room supporting. Also, the Simply Cyber community directly above my head has got hundreds and hundreds of years of experience together. We will level everybody up and it's just all about good times. Now, I would like to know if you're here for the first time. Actually, I really want to know if you're here for the second time because if you came yesterday and then you came back, holy crap, you are a diehard Simply Cyber community person and I love it. But if you're here for the first time, do shout out a hashtag first timer. Building community, building relationships, building the network is incredibly valuable. And if you don't know how to start, Simply Cyber's community is deliberately designed to make that on-ramp as easy as possible for you if you choose this approach. So drop a hashtag first timer in chat. We've got a just great, great bunch of people, ad techs in there right now. That will welcome you. Will welcome you with sound effects, emotes, and just general how-you-doing friend vibes. It is Wednesday. Every day of the week has a special segment. And as Annville3589 pointed out, it is hump, hump, hump day. It's also way back Wednesday. So halfway through the show, we'll take a few minutes, kick it old school with some retro tech, have some fun, educate the youngs on how life used to be. And for the olds, we'll just vibe on things that used to be. I do want to say a quick shout out. Went to the Sphere last night with Mrs. Auger and attended the Wizard of Oz Sphere Experience. Pretty fun. Happy to talk about that.
You know, actually, maybe the way back Wednesday would be a little retro, like ultra retro, and talk about some of the things about Wizard of Oz that are interesting that I know about. Also want you to know that every single episode of Daily Cyber Threat Brief is worth half a CPE. You can get your CPEs, your Continuing Professional Education credits, sorted out.
Very simple. Go to cyberthreatbrief.simplycyber.io/cpe or hit exclamation point CPE in chat right now. Ryder Henson, welcome to the party, pal. Hold on, Ryder Henson. Hold on. You know what? I'm going to have to make this a more official, more.
I don't want Facebook. What are you joking me with that?
How do I get? I want it. Yeah, there we go. Look at this.
I'm going to have to just make this like a permanent thing. There you go. Ryder, welcome to the party, pal.

**Rich Strafalino** (4:45)
Welcome to the party, pal.

**Dr. Gerald Auger** (4:49)
I definitely hope you enjoy yourself, Ryder.
Every episode is worth half a CPE. So just basically come on in here, put your name, email address, a couple of checkboxes, and at the end of the year, excuse me, at the end of the month, so the 1st of September, I will email you with a list of all the CPEs that you earned for the month of August, alongside a snazzy little PDF. That PDF is currently not working. I plan on correcting that when I get back from Vegas, but right now, I just am busy in Vegas with work. So we got Daily Cyber Threat Brief, CPEs, first timers, worldwide, way back Wednesdays, we almost slipped there.
