All right, what's up, party people? Good morning, today is Monday, August 3rd, 2026 This is episode 1186 of your Simply Cyber Daily Cyber Threat Brief podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Gerald Auger, coming to you live one day only this week from Buffer Auger Flow Studio here in the Lowcountry. If you're looking to stay current on the top cyber news stories while engaging with like-minded, inclusive and all-around awesome professionals, then you're in the right place, my friend. Get your coffee cup ready. Get comfortable. We got a great show for you.
All right, what's up, everybody? Definitely hope you had a great weekend. We are geeked up and ready to rock. We've got hacker summer camp this week. Some of you probably go into B-Sides Vegas, I think today, yesterday or today. And Black Hat revs up starting tomorrow. DEFCON at the end of the week. Be sure to check out the DEFCON, Simply Cyber Hack Smart and Meetup on Friday. I got more details on that. Listen, over the next hour, me and you, Steve Young, we're gonna go through eight cyber stories of the day. They're very relevant, very timely. We'll give you the headline. We'll give you the kind of high level detail of what you would read above the fold. The old know what I'm talking about. Kind of the high level, you know, zeitgeist detail of what it is, things that people will be talking about around the cooler. But then I want to go beyond the headline, give you additional value, additional insights for each story, whether it's, you know, how to manage that, how to execute it, how to defend against it, how to use it for your own benefits in your career. That's the value or one of the values here at Simply Cyber. So we'll do that for all eight stories. Very excited about it. As always, I'm surrounded by hundreds of Simply Cyber community members, like James McQuiggan and Mara Levy, Ad Tech and Tom Lavin. So many of you, Marcus Kyle, are over on the elliptical Sierra Montgomery in the dark. So many cyber professionals who will also be sharing their insights, their experience. And ultimately, dude, it's a grind, but every single day we're up here leveling up and enriching everybody. And I got to tell you, I have heard in the last month, more people reach out to me and say, dude, I am absolutely slaying it at my job. Whatever that is, getting your first role, leveling up, switching jobs in the industry, whatever it is. I've literally had multiple people, I'd say like at least five, message me, DM me, hit me in general Discord and say, listen, because of the Daily Cyber Threat Brief, it's not one specific thing. It's just the general everyday kind of vibe of Daily Cyber Threat Brief. I have been able to absolutely destroy my job, my workloads, like in the best way possible. So stick with us guys, I'm promising you, there's no easy button to slap here. It is an investment in yourself. Now, every day of the week, we have a little special segment. Hey, hey special segment. And today is Mondays. Of course, it's Simply Cyber's Community Member of the Week. We always recognize our community members because it does take a village. One of the great things is ThreatLocker also realizes how amazing you are and has donated, or ThreatLocker has sponsored this segment on Mondays, which means if we boil it down, what does that mean, Jerry? It means I want to tell you about ThreatLocker, ThreatLocker application and I by default, they straight slay it. They give me money. I take money and give it to you. So whoever the Simply Cyber community member of the week is, is going to get $100 prize. It's usually an Amazon gift card. Recently, we just launched the new shop, the Simply Cyber store got a grand reopening, and we've been having some requests to have gift cards to the shop as the prize. So certainly interested in doing that.
But stay tuned for that for who are Simply Cyber community member of the week is always, always love recognizing all y'all.
If you're here for the first time, you might be a little overwhelmed, but that's okay. That's okay if you're a little overwhelmed. There's no expectations. We're not going to put any pressure on you. But well, I would say is if you want to take one small step towards opening your personal network, your professional network, opening opportunities potentially downstream, drop a hashtag first timer if you're here for the first time. And heck, since it's a Monday of Black Hat Def Con, if you're an old timer, drop a hashtag old timer. If you're a fifth timer, drop a hashtag fifth timer. Let us know where you stand. Dark Iceman is in the house. Good to see you, Dark Iceman. Give me a woo. There we go.
