Hi, I'm CNBC producer Ryan Anastasio. They let me come back. Here's what's ahead on Squawk Pod. Strikes in the Middle East as Iran-backed Houthis attack a Saudi oil site. Amos Hochstein, chief energy advisor in the Biden White House on the news and the politics.

Amos Hochstein (1:19)

I've stopped understanding what our strategy is. I think the president is facing choices he doesn't like, and he increasingly doesn't like them.

Ryan Anastasio (1:27)

Fanatic CEO Michael Rubin on the explosion of interest in money in sports betting and prediction markets.

Michael Rubin (1:32)

I think you're going to see a lot of battles over the next couple of years, which is why people are negative on the space. And by the way, it will not be a fun next couple of years. But the question is, in five years, 10 years from now, is this fundamentally good business? And I believe that it is.

Ryan Anastasio (1:46)

Plus, an OpenAI employee fired for spying on a conference room, diesel deals, and?

Joe Kernen (1:52)

They're like, ka-ching, ka-ching, raising the rate. I'm raising this. I'm raising that. I'm raising this. Then I'm going to raise that.

Ryan Anastasio (1:58)

The rest of today's news that got us squawking.

Becky Quick (2:01)

Follow along, folks.

Ryan Anastasio (2:03)

It's Wednesday, October 14th, 2026 Squawk Pod begins right now.

Eamon Javers (2:08)

Stand Becky by in three, two, one. Cue the please.

Becky Quick (2:13)

Good morning, everybody. Welcome to Squawk Box right here on CNBC. We are live from the Nasdaq Market site in Times Square. I'm Becky Quick, along with Joe Kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin.

Here we go on this, what day is today? Wednesday morning? Wednesday morning. Wednesday, right? Hump day.

Joe Kernen (2:28)

Say it. You know what day it is.

Becky Quick (2:30)

It's hump day.

Joe Kernen (2:30)

It's a stupid commercial, I know.

Andrew Ross Sorkin (2:32)

And we got a new report from the International Energy Agency warning that constraints on the diesel market will extend well into next year. The group's October oil report saying that supply will remain tight into the latter half of 2027

It says even with the rapid recovery, expected and refinery throughputs into year end, supply will fall short of meeting demand in the fourth quarter. And you're looking right now at WTI at 95 and Brent at 106

Joe Kernen (3:02)

And more US senators, more now speaking out against President Trump's decision to allow Russia to temporarily export diesel fuel to the global market. Six GOP senators joining with six Democrat colleagues in a letter urging the president to cancel the arrangement. Kentucky's Mitch McConnell, Texas' John Cornyn joined four Republicans who had earlier already questioned the deal.

It's interesting and there's the ongoing debate about whether other Republicans don't speak out because they know what's good for them in terms of Trump, but these are the six. You know, they all got something.

Becky Quick (3:44)

You know who else would have been there though? Lindsey Graham.

Joe Kernen (3:46)

He probably would have been there for sure, as pro-Ukraine as he was. But you know, Tillis and Susan Collins is in Maine in an election. Lisa Murkowski. Lisa Murkowski.

Cornyn is really, really mad because of Talarico. So it's just weird. That's the only time maybe you get honest. You could even get one or two. That's the only time you really get an honest vote or the others. And I was thinking about Andrew, and I'm going to talk about it in a second, but these banks, the big piece in the journal today, banks are really worried because of interest rates are going up. It's like, that's a wink. They love that. They love the prime rate. It's like, oh, interest rates are going up. We're worried about it. They're like, ka-ching, ka-ching, raising the rate. I'm raising this. I'm raising that. I'm raising this. Then I'm going to raise that.
