ASML Says Chipmakers Are Eyeing 2030: What Its Outlook Really Says About the AI Boom | The Daily AI Chat

The Daily AI Chat

October 14, 2026

Is the AI chip buildout running out of steam—or is demand for the machines that make those chips still accelerating? ASML says some customers are interested in placing equipment orders for 2029 and even 2030.

Welcome to The Daily AI Chat. This podcast was curated by our human friend, Fred, and we are your dedicated AI hosts.

SPEAKER_2 (0:16)

Yeah, it is really great to be here with you today.

SPEAKER_1 (0:20)

So right now, if you look anywhere in the tech world, everyone is asking you the exact same question. Like, is this massive AI spending boom?

An actual permanent shift in how our global economy works? Or are we just watching a spectacularly expensive hype cycle that is about to just run out of steam and crash?

SPEAKER_2 (0:40)

I mean, it is basically the defining technological question of our time right now. Every venture capitalist, software developer, and tech enthusiast out there is just desperately searching for a reliable signal to tell them what happens next.

SPEAKER_1 (0:54)

Exactly.

And to find that signal for you today, we aren't going to look at the flashy software companies, the ones making the chatbots. Right. You just won't find the answer in an app. Instead, we are looking at the heavy machinery. We are going to look at the company that makes the machines that actually make the chips.

SPEAKER_2 (1:11)

Yes.

SPEAKER_1 (1:12)

Specifically, we are diving into an October 14, 2026 Reuters report by Nathan Vifflin and Toby Sterling. And they covered the latest financial outlook for a Dutch company called ASML.

So, okay, let's unpack this, starting with just the sheer scale of the money moving around right now.

SPEAKER_2 (1:29)

Yeah. The numbers in this Reuters report are, frankly, they are just staggering. They offer a really rare, completely unfiltered look into the physical supply chain of artificial intelligence. Because behind every single piece of code, there is a physical piece of silicon. Exactly.

SPEAKER_1 (1:50)

And the money tied to that silicon is just mind-blowing. Let's look at ASML scoreboard for the third quarter of 2026

They just announced a massive 11.7 billion euros in total net sales for Q3.

SPEAKER_2 (2:03)

Right.

SPEAKER_1 (2:04)

And out of that, their net income, so their actual profit, was about 4.96 billion euros for a single quarter.

SPEAKER_2 (2:12)

I mean, just think about that margin for a second. Keeping almost 5 billion euros in pure profit on 11 billion in sales over just 3 months.

SPEAKER_1 (2:22)

It's wild.

SPEAKER_2 (2:23)

It is an insane margin, honestly. It really just goes to show what happens when you are essentially the only company on earth that knows how to build a specific essential product.

SPEAKER_1 (2:33)

Right. But the report didn't just stop at what they have already made. They also laid out their projections.

So ASML gave their guidance for the fourth quarter, expecting between 14.2 billion and 15.2 billion euros in sales.

SPEAKER_2 (2:48)

Yeah.

SPEAKER_1 (2:49)

And because of that really strong finish to the year, they actually raised their full year 2026 sales outlook to somewhere between 44 billion and 45 billion euros.

SPEAKER_2 (2:58)

Now wait, before we go any further, I think it is absolutely vital that we draw a hard line for you between these two sets of numbers. Okay. Because it is a distinction that constantly gets lost in the excitement of tech reporting, it is just crucial for understanding the real landscape.

SPEAKER_1 (3:13)

Wait, I got to stop you there. I mean, 44 billion in outlook versus the 11.7 billion, they just banked in a single quarter. Isn't that basically a guaranteed trajectory at this point?

If they are already in Q4, why are you drawing such a hard line between those numbers?

SPEAKER_2 (3:29)

I am drawing a line because we have to separate achieved results from company guidance. The Q3 numbers, that 11.7 billion in sales, those are achieved results. That is money in the bank. Contracts fulfilled, heavy machinery, literally loaded onto planes and delivered. It is a historical, unchangeable fact.

But that massive 44 to 45 billion euro full year outlook, that is company guidance.

SPEAKER_1 (3:55)

Right, it's a corporate forecast.

SPEAKER_2 (3:57)

But isn't it usually highly accurate? Well, it is an educated forecast, yeah, formulated by brilliant financial minds, but it is not a guaranteed or achieved result. Guidance is essentially a company telling the market, hey, based on our current order book and everything we see today, here is what we confidently expect to happen.

SPEAKER_1 (4:18)

But things change.

SPEAKER_2 (4:19)

Exactly. Physical realities, supply chain shocks, geopolitical incident, or just sudden shifts in global economics can always alter that trajectory before the year closes. So as we evaluate the actual tangible strength of the AI boom, we have to anchor ourselves in the achieved results while treating the guidance as exactly what it is.

A confident roadmap, not a finalized receipt.
