A California man facing separate state and federal weapons charges after authorities reportedly discovered him armed at President Trump's golf course outside Los Angeles just two days before the president's visit. Federal prosecutors identifying the suspect as 38-year-old Janine John Taley of Downey, California. According to a federal criminal complaint, agents first noticing Taley at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes on Friday while conducting security preparations for the president's upcoming fundraiser. Taley allegedly walking around the property wearing an earpiece while photographing and recording the federal agents and their security planning activities. Federal authorities reporting Taley leaving the property before returning on Sunday as agents continued preparing for the president's visit. Taley allegedly approaching the agents and claiming he worked for the State Department while falsely presenting himself as part of a security detail.
The suspect then reportedly telling agents he had a loaded firearm inside his vehicle in the Golf Course parking lot. Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responding to the property and discovering Taley was also wanted in connection with an unrelated robbery investigation dating back to November of last year.
Deputies allegedly recovering a 16 round magazine loaded with hollow point ammunition from Taley's pocket. A search of his pickup truck reportedly uncovering a loaded 9mm pistol with a round in the chamber, additional hollow point ammunition, binoculars, and a badge reading, Security Protection Agent. Detectives assigned to the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force subsequently searching Taley's home in Downey. Authorities reportedly recovering an illegally modified rifle, a 45 caliber pistol, body armor, high capacity magazines, ammunition, radio equipment, and multiple notebooks containing what investigators describe only as quote, concerning statements.
On the state level, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charging Taley with four counts. Those charges including three alleged weapons offenses connected to the golf course arrest, possession of a short barreled rifle or shotgun, receiving a large capacity magazine, and carrying a concealed firearm inside a vehicle. The fourth state charge involving second degree robbery, reportedly stemming from the separate November 2025 incident under investigation by El Segundo police. Taley pleading not guilty to all four state charges during his arraignment Tuesday. A judge setting bail at $250,000, ordering Taley to stay away from the golf course and prohibiting him from possessing weapons. His preliminary hearing and bail review set for August 26th. Federal prosecutors separately charging Taley with possessing an unregistered short barreled rifle based on a weapon allegedly recovered from his home. That federal felony carrying a maximum possible sentence of 10 years behind bars. Taley expected to make his first appearance in federal court following his transfer from county custody.
