ARK Invest: The AI Revolution in Biology Is Bigger Than the Internet
Milk Road Stocks
September 28, 2026
In this episode of Milk Road Stocks, ARK Invest Chief Futurist Brett Winton and Multi-Omics Portfolio Manager Ovid Amadi explain why the convergence of artificial intelligence, genomics, gene editing, cancer diagnostics, and drug discovery could create one of the biggest investment opportunities of...

You know, the interesting thing is, we don't really have a health care system. That would imply you have a system where you take care of the healthy people, right? What we have is a sick care system where we wait for people to get sick, and once they get sick, we try to kind of manage their symptoms. You know, hopefully we can cure them.

What's up, everybody? It's LG Doucet here, and welcome to Milk Road Stocks, the daily market show that needs an AI developed sleeping pill real bad, because this market is keeping me up all night. Today is September 28th, 2026, recording on the 21st. Today, we're diving into a side of the market of AI that we don't talk about nearly enough, biology. I'm joined today by Brett Winton, the chief futurist at ARK Invest and Ovid Amadi, ARK's multi-omics portfolio manager and director of research. We're going to talk about what happens when you combine AI with genomics and how it's changing everything from drug discovery to cancer detection and gene editing, and importantly, for investors, where the opportunities may be. A reminder that some of our analysts like Kyle and Vincent have in fact made moves in the space in recent months, scooping up some pretty big names in the space and even looking at some of those products that are going to be coming out in the near future. And you can see Kyle and Vincent's moves for just a dollar in Milk Road PRO at the link below. Brett, Ovid, welcome to the show, guys.
Ovid Amadi (1:11)
Hi, LG. Thanks.
LG Doucet (1:13)
Okay, before we dive in, because I really want to spend a very concentrated like half hour, 40 minutes with you guys, because there's a lot to talk about from, and I want to hear a lot from both of you. First, I think it's always helpful to get to know each of you since we've never had you on the show. Brett, let's start with you, man.
Who are you? What is a chief futurist at ARK Invest do every day?
Brett Winton (1:33)
What do I do every day? Well, I think about the future. I really focus on the technologies, all of the technology platforms that we focus on, and in particular, the ways in which they intersect and catalyze each other. As such, multiomics is a super interesting space because of how AI both explicitly and implicitly is accelerating the rate of progress.
You may have noticed that Anthropic is suddenly becoming the key customer to some of these data providers within the multiomics space because these big frontier labs are seeing multiomics and drug development as a place to profitably deploy their tools and efforts. It's a really exciting emerging sector to be really heavily invested in.
LG Doucet (2:21)
What do you do every day though?
What do you read headlines? You dig into these fear-mongering essays. What are you looking at?
Brett Winton (2:28)
Well, I do actually a lot of analytic work, so I forecast cost declines. I pitch in areas where I am curious and I think the market misunderstands things and then drive some of the top-down work. Then I pass that on to the directors of research and analysts then deploy against either their underlying underwriting of the securities or to expand their own understanding of the state of play in their particular technology area. I've spent a lot of time on SpaceX, XAI, the Frontier Labs, and also among the venture investment committee.
I'm underwriting those individual positions in our venture portfolio.
Ovid Amadi (3:06)
Oh my God.
LG Doucet (3:07)
Ovid, I want to hear from you and who you are, but also my first question for you was when Brett comes calling, when he comes knocking, is it good for your team or bad for your team?
Ovid Amadi (3:16)
It's good for my team and it normally comes with an Excel spreadsheet that I can dive into. I always appreciate the great work that Brett does.
I'm on our multi-omics team. I spend my time looking at technologies, translating that into potential market sizings, and then figuring out how that gets divvied up against the various players in the space. I've been excited about the intersection between technology and biology. That's what gets me out of bed every morning, and that's what I spend the rest of the day doing.
LG Doucet (3:47)
I have to ask you right off the bat, multi-omics, what is that? Because the term, I don't feel like we've heard too much genomics. We know, I think most people have looked into that, especially people that want to be listening to the show, but multi-omics, a little harder to understand even at the top what that term means. So please explain it to me.
