Are you okay with this? On The Hammer and Nigel Show.
This viral video back from 2024 is making the rounds again, and it actually made me think of you, Hammer. We had this story back then, I remember this. It's about this chick in Washington. She had this wonderful idea about feeding raccoons on her property.
**Hammer** (0:22)
Oh, jeez!
**Nigel** (0:23)
Things got out of control when she surrounded herself with hundreds of them. Here's her 911 call and the follow-up with police.
**Hammer** (0:33)
I have anywhere from 50 to 100 raccoons. I need an officer. I'm right in my car. They chase me all the way out through the backyard. You're not able to get out of your car. You're stuck in your vehicle.
**Nigel** (0:44)
They know that your source of food will come right up to you.
**Hammer** (0:47)
I went 30 hours without feeding them. This is just, this is probably one third of them. A third of them? These big ones, they fight.
This call came out, I thought you were playing. Well, so I had to come out here and see it.
**Nigel** (1:00)
It's like Cujo, you're trapped in your car for 30 hours.
Wow. Are you OK with her feeding raccoons and being trapped? You're going to call the police?
**Hammer** (1:08)
Well, those are two separate questions. I'm not OK with her feeding the raccoons, but if she's going to do it, I'm perfectly fine with her being trapped because this is what happens when you deal with those little trash bandits.
I'm telling you, man, some of those raccoons are mean. Allison, you probably deal with some of these calls on Home and Garden Show throughout the weekend.
Raccoons, they're nothing to be feeding. There's nothing you want to keep around. And some of them are meaner in hell. Yeah, you don't feed the animals because they do get angry. Yes. And as a matter of fact, I was telling Allison this before the show today.
We're having a little issue in the backyard at the Hammer house. We had a groundhog that was starting to dig and be a little pain in the ass.
**Nigel** (1:53)
OK, I'm all right.
**Hammer** (1:55)
Right.
**Nigel** (1:55)
Don't you need to worry about me?
**Hammer** (1:57)
So we got the cage and we've caught groundhogs in the cage before. So it's time to get the cage back out. We got the little corn in there and all the stuff set up. So I wake up this morning and look out there. There's a critter. Bada bing, bada boom. We got one of them because there's two. There's two of these fat little bastards.
Unfortunately, it was a raccoon that we caught this morning.
**Nigel** (2:19)
No. Well, good.
**Hammer** (2:21)
I mean, that's one less thing, as Forrest would say. But the two fat you-know-whats are still under my mini barn, living the sweet life. So we eliminated the raccoons. Had a neighbor take them out to the country and drop it off. So we got the new trap set. And I'm hoping by the time I get home, at least one of those fat little you-know-whats is going to be in that trap.
I hate them. I hate them.
**Nigel** (2:47)
Man, we had to put, literally, we had to rig our trash bin with a makeshift seat belt. Because even though our trash bins are in an enclosure on the side of our garage, the coons would still get in and still lift the trash bins up by themselves with their very little paws.
**Hammer** (3:08)
They do that.
**Nigel** (3:08)
And get in. Now, they did it even when I had the makeshift seat belt, like, clamp it closed. They still get in.
**Hammer** (3:17)
They jimmyed it open?
**Nigel** (3:18)
They jimmyed it open, but it got trapped in there. And so when I finally opened it, I just, I was like, whoa!
**Hammer** (3:24)
Oh, jeez! Did it jump out at you?
**Nigel** (3:26)
No, because it was about to die. It was like, I could see it breathing.
**Hammer** (3:29)
It was like...
**Nigel** (3:33)
So what I did was I literally dumped the trash bin on its side and that kind of jarred him awake and he ran out into the woods.
**Hammer** (3:43)
Allison, any other tips other than like the cage that I've got to deal with groundhogs?
**Nigel** (3:49)
I just know about the traps.
**Hammer** (3:50)
That's all I know. OK, so I'll keep you guys up to date.
**Nigel** (3:54)
And you're saying you have a guy who just takes him out to the woods and lets him go?
**Hammer** (3:58)
We'll have a neighbor that works out like in the sticks.
