James Talarico of Texas, Democrat running for Senate there, is holding a slight lead over Republican Ken Paxton for that, again, that Senate race in Texas. Do you think Talarico, this weirdo Democrat, just lunatic guy who tries to pretend he's a Christian but thinks like, you know, Jesus is non-Bionary?
Like, I don't even know if I'm saying that right. Like, it just just kind of he said all sorts of wacky thing. Somebody asked him who his favorite drag queen in Texas was, and he rattled off like three names right in a row.
SPEAKER_2 (0:39)
He was waiting for somebody to ask him that question. I thought you'd never ask.
What took you so long?
Nigel (0:46)
So now polls, a new poll saying that he's got a slight lead over the the Republican race in the the US. Senate in Texas. And this matters to us here in Indiana.
SPEAKER_2 (0:59)
It's a big deal because it's I don't want to say accepted that the Democrats are going to win the House. But it feels like that's where the momentum is right now. Democrats might win the House. It's a razor thin margin right now. It's a midterm. Usually the opposite party has that revenge of the nerds moment and they win. But the Senate is where the Republicans really have to get tough here because if you turn over the House and the Senate to the Democrats, here comes impeachment, palooza, and here comes a bunch of nonsense. So we turn our attention to the Senate and this poll.
It's a big data poll conducted from September 24th to the 26th. Among likely voters in Texas, Talarico leads 44.6 to 41.6. Now, keep this in mind. The polling this midterm season has been awful.
The polling showed that El-Syed was going to win in a landslide, and it was really close. Remember, he was running against the female, Chris Farley, and it was close.
Nigel (2:13)
You're talking about the Michigan Senate race, right?
SPEAKER_2 (2:15)
Right.
That's the Michigan way. Like that wacky broad almost beat El-Syed. And then some of the other polling, like in Wisconsin and Milwaukee, the crazy socialist chick, she got beat by 20 percent. She was a heavy favorite and she got her doors blown off. So we'll see what happens. It feels like every time there's a close race in Texas, the polling always shows the underdog is going to win, whether it's Beto or whether it's Talarico.
But when the rubber meets the road, I think most Texans that like a big steak and a cold beer are not going to go out and vote for the guy that said Jesus is non-binary. I just don't see that happening, not in Texas.
Nigel (3:02)
There's multiple sexes. There's like six different sexes, I think is what something along the lines you said. I could be, I might be paraphrasing whatever. It sounds just as dumb when I say it as when he did.
SPEAKER_2 (3:16)
Let me ask you this question, Nigel, because for years, the Democrats would just run on you're racist, you're a sexist, you're racist. That was their whole campaign, and we mocked them for it.
Are the Republicans falling into the trap of doing the same thing? You're a socialist, you're a communist, like not talking about the things they want to do or specific reasons, just quick to call somebody a socialist. Are they falling into that same trap?
Nigel (3:47)
You call somebody a socialist or a progressive or some sort of left wing lunatic and then point out how they are and point out their views and make sure people understand what it means to be a progressive, identity politics, transgender kids, all that stuff. You point that out, you make sure people understand. No, I don't think that's too far of a stretch to me anyway.
SPEAKER_2 (4:19)
President Trump, I kind of got the feeling that he thinks the party needs to do more talking about the issues.
Nigel (4:27)
Okay.
SPEAKER_2 (4:27)
Talking about why you're calling somebody a socialist.
Nigel (4:30)
Yeah, I mentioned a few of those, but.
SPEAKER_2 (4:33)
Here's what President Trump thinks these down ballot Republicans should be talking about.
Donald Trump (4:39)
We have great people and we're running against communists, lunatics, socialists. We're running against people that are going to open up in the water.
We have a border just came out 17 months in a row. We have no people coming in zero, which is hard to believe even, but that's what it is. I don't put out the numbers and we have a strong border, but we have $21 trillion being invested in our country.
We have the highest number of jobs in the history of the United States of America. We have the best crime numbers in the history of our country, despite the fact that they allowed 25 million people, many of whom were criminals into our country. We have the best murder. It's not a nice thing to say, but the murders are lower than at any time since 1900
