Hi, I'm Valerie, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.
Welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you a unique look at the cosmetics industry. This is episode 250 I'm your host, Valerie George, and with me today is Perry Romanowski. Hi Perry.
Perry Romanowski (0:26)
Hello Valerie, so good to be here.
Valerie George (0:29)
I'm so happy to be back on today's show. We're going to answer questions about can a product with just three ingredients work? Do you have to give your nails a break from nail polish so they can breathe?
Do you have to shampoo out hair color? Do you really need to double cleanse? And are toners really necessary?
Perry Romanowski (0:49)
Sounds like a fully packed show.
Valerie George (0:51)
Yeah, lots of exciting questions. And what I like about this is that, well, aside from the first question, it really speaks to routine. Are these things necessary in your routine? So that's kind of fun.
Perry Romanowski (1:04)
Yeah, you hear a lot about these kinds of things and there's a lot of advice on the internet. You know that there's not a lot of advice about?
Valerie George (1:11)
What?
Perry Romanowski (1:12)
Surviving, having the snow right after you've been in Florida for a month. I mean, this is, it's like eight inches here in Chicago. It's crazy.
Valerie George (1:20)
We are having a cold spell as well. It's like 35 to 40 degrees here. It's freezing.
Perry Romanowski (1:27)
That is cold, wow.
Valerie George (1:28)
Yeah, it's always cold in the lab though. Year round, we always have to wear our puffer jackets because they keep that AC pump in or no heat. So it's always freezing at work, but anyway.
Perry Romanowski (1:39)
Well, I've been doing webinars. I had a webinar today. I'm doing a webinar tomorrow, which is nice and fun, but what have you been up to?
Valerie George (1:47)
Well, work, of course, but I've teased a little bit over the last few months that I've been working on a project four years in the making, and I'm very excited to announce that I will be launching next week.
Perry Romanowski (2:02)
Whoa, can't wait to unveil that next week.
Valerie George (2:06)
Yeah, so we'll talk about it next week. I'll tell everyone exactly what I've been up to. I know we've gotten a lot of questions. I've secretly told a couple people and then told them if word gets out, I'll know you told everybody.
But yeah, I'll tell you guys what I've been doing and what I'm excited about. And it's not a product. I know a couple people have been hoping we've been coming out with a product. That's for the future for The Beauty Brains. But yeah, anyway, we'll share that for next week.
Perry Romanowski (2:33)
Well, you know, you did share with me your website, and I just wanted to point out that the pictures look really good. You must have had like professional photo shoot or something.
Valerie George (2:43)
Yeah, I did.
Perry Romanowski (2:43)
I'm like, what? Kate Middleton, she started a website.
Valerie George (2:47)
Yeah. Oh, thanks. Yeah, someone was like, you photographed very well. I was like, I know, thank you.
I'm just kidding. But no, you guys will understand what I'm talking about, why I had to invest in great photography next week. You'll learn all about it.
Perry Romanowski (3:02)
Yeah, sounds like fun. You know what else sounds like fun?
Valerie George (3:05)
Beauty Science News. So, what have you seen so far in 2021?
Perry Romanowski (3:16)
Well, you know, Valerie, this is the start of the new year, and companies are always publishing what they think are gonna be the big trends for 2021 And I saw this article from Euromonitor, and they gave their trend predictions, and they weren't particularly insightful to me as far as I go.
In fact, I looked at last year's prediction, the 2020 ones.
Valerie George (3:39)
Did they come true?
Perry Romanowski (3:41)
Well, nobody said anything about any pandemics. I have to say there was a lot of recycling of 2020 for 2021
Valerie George (3:51)
Well, we get a redo, right? The world gets a redo.
Perry Romanowski (3:54)
I don't think really anybody predicted a pandemics, which is just evidence that psychic powers don't exist.
Valerie George (4:05)
Well, what did Euromonitor say?
Perry Romanowski (4:07)
Well, Euromonitor, they said, customization and CBD is going to be like all the stuff that we've got.
Valerie George (4:14)
Oh, surprising.
Perry Romanowski (4:16)
Yeah.
But I was thinking, okay, Mr. Smart Guy, let's not be Mr. Critical if you're so smart. Why don't you give predictions?
