It's Jim Cramer here. You're listening to the opening bell of CNBC's Squawk on the Street. Don't miss a minute of the action.
Carl Quintanilla (1:10)
Good Monday morning, welcome to Squawk on the Street. I'm Carl Quintanilla with Jim Cramer, David Faber at Post Night of the New York Stock Exchange. Watching energy today, biggest gain in a couple of weeks as the market waits to see if Iran will attend this new round of talks scheduled in Islamabad tomorrow. Equity futures off the morning lows and of course coming off Friday's S&P NASDAQ record highs. Big week ahead with some industrial airlines and consumer earnings too. Our roadmap begins with this tech-fueled rally with the NASDAQ coming off the longest win streak since 92
But signs of a shaky ceasefire weighing on sentiment ahead of the open.
David Faber (1:43)
Plus, airline stocks under pressure this morning. This says investors of course were that renewed US-Iran tensions are going to keep energy prices elevated. And also, American says no way on that possible United tie-up that was reported last week.
The NSA reportedly using antropics mythos despite the Trump administration's so-called blacklist of that company. While the White House holds what it calls productive talks with antropics mythos.
Carl Quintanilla (2:11)
Let's begin with the markets. So we mentioned this win streak for the NAS. Jim, if we get a gain today, you got to go back to 87
Jim Cramer (2:19)
Really, Rad, ooh, 87, we should move that. There's just this kind of bifurcated situation. We've got so much money going into the data center.
It's now encompassing so many different companies. And it doesn't stop with oil and gas. And then you have airlines that do stop with oil and gas. And airlines are just not the market. Even transports have done well because they do a fuel charge. David, I think one of the problems is, is when you look for companies that are directly hurt by this, versus, say, another time in the last 30 years when oil was more important than now, it's hard to just kind of say, I'm going to sell X on this.
David Faber (3:02)
Right.
Certainly, when it comes to those companies that are domestically based. I do wonder, and there's more reporting on this every day, I think Times Today, as well as others, the impact that the continued shutdown of the strait is going to have in Asia. And I do wonder, Jim, what flow back, so to speak, there will be to our market and or to our overall ability to access products and things like that. Or are they completely separate? Well, I mean, is that not something that investors here should be concerned with?
Jim Cramer (3:37)
Well, I'm getting used to waking up and seeing those markets doing well.
David Faber (3:43)
Right.
Jim Cramer (3:44)
And it's like, okay, wait a second. Nikkei, you know, Hansa, I mean, Korea, the Cosby doing well. Yeah, but then I look at it and I say, what is the Cosby? Well, the majority of Cosby is high bandwidth memory.
Yes.
David Faber (3:58)
It's Hynix and Samsung, right.
Jim Cramer (4:00)
And those just are immune, well, if anything, there's an acceleration. There's so much money coming into these that it's just, you kind of say-
David Faber (4:08)
There is, but I mean, there's a real concern in my-
Jim Cramer (4:10)
I agree, but-
David Faber (4:11)
I mean, right? There's a real concern in these countries, it would seem, about having access to enough natural gas and other key commodities to keep things moving the way they are. Now, we've seen it on the jet fuel side, but-
Carl Quintanilla (4:24)
I mean, the piece in The Times today, I wrote down a line, countless businesses are on the verge of insolvency, several countries could be pushed into convulsions of unrest. I mean, that's the kind of thing that David's referring to in this Times piece.
