Carl Quintanilla (1:15)
Congratulations to our friends on Squawk. What a run, 30 years. Good Tuesday morning. Welcome to Squawk on the Street. I'm Carl Quintanilla with Jim Cramer, David Faber at Post 9 of the New York Stock Exchange. Even with a light data and earnings calendar today, it is a busy one between the Barclays Financials Conference, job growth revisions on the way, an Apple event with the first major new phone design in years. Pre-market is steady, tenure just below 407 Our roadmap begins with Apple's big day, slimmer iPhones, some new watches expected to be unveiled today. They will discuss if it will be a catalyst for the stock, which is down for the year.
David Faber (1:47)
While Apple may be underperforming this year, the shares at least, the markets do keep hitting record highs. This is investors gear up for those rate cuts. However, one major area of the economy is flashing a warning sign. And we have a $53 billion deal this morning. It creates one of the world's largest mining companies. We'll tell you about the players involved, what it means for the sector, whether the deal will actually close, and anything else that Jim's thinking.
Jim Cramer (2:15)
Sure.
David Faber (2:15)
Copper.
Jim Cramer (2:16)
I love copper.
David Faber (2:16)
Yeah, copper.
Carl Quintanilla (2:18)
Let's begin with Apple's product event due to get underway in less than four hours from now. Over the past five years, shares of Apple have posted gains in the 12-month periods following its iPhone launch events. That includes a 15% jump after the unveiling of the 14 in 2022 Actually, Jim, a lot of the discussion today revolves around the Pro, which will have an upgraded camera. That's where some of the fire is expected to be.
Jim Cramer (2:41)
Well, that's big. But I always think that you have to understand the state of play of Verizon, of ATT, of T-Mobile. T-Mobile has historically under Sievert come in and say, listen, you want a phone? Don't pay any attention to what you heard from Apple. Here's the deal. And you go to Costco, David, and you look at the T-Mobile deal and you say, this phone is cheaper than the 13 I mean, they make deals. So let's not freak out about what, like, you'll hear it, wow, it's really expensive. But if I get a new camera and whatever new device, maybe something that is, has better resolution, I don't know. I might switch just because it doesn't cost much to switch.
David Faber (3:22)
Well, right. Over time, the subsidization, to the extent it takes place from the carriers, is important. That said, what about the product portfolio itself? Apple Intelligence, are we even going to, are we talking about that still?
Jim Cramer (3:36)
No, I mean, you have to, look, I keep waiting for a deal now that the, that judge reversed himself and...
David Faber (3:43)
You're talking about Google, the alphabet trial.
Jim Cramer (3:46)
Well, I, look, I didn't think there was a chance that there, that that would, that that would pass muster, that you could, that Google could pay 20 billion to be able to have it.
David Faber (3:54)
That that would still stand after the, after the, after the monopoly verdict was, was actually for the decision, I should say.
Jim Cramer (4:00)
Right, and the circular reason the judge used was, was, I think, so lightweight, which is the idea that if they didn't pay them, they would become even more monopolist. I mean, I, I don't know that to me that was, that was like moot court. I, I was shocked at that. But the fact is, is that if you're Eddy Cue and you heard that, Eddy Cue was the guy who had, was talking about the price, I think you just say, okay, line up, guys. Line up for Plexity. Hey, you anthropic, we'll take yours and you can go spend 90 billion on Nvidia. And we'll, we'll, you know, we'll let you load you up into the 17 I love that.
