It's Jim Cramer here. You're listening to the opening bell of CNBC Squawk on the Street. Don't miss a minute of the action.
Carl Quintanilla (1:14)
Good Thursday morning, welcome to Squawk on the Street. I'm Carl Quintanilla with Jim Cramer, David Faber at Post 9 of the New York Stock Exchange. Coming off the first back-to-back losses for the Dow since September 3rd and futures week. As the eco data does come in stronger, jobless claims lowest since July. Two-year yield near a one-month high, dollar index near a three-week high. Our roadmap begins with some fresh news. Fresh off raising billions from NVIDIA, Softbank, and even the US government reports that Intel is now looking for more investment from Apple.
David Faber (1:43)
Plus, President Trump is expected to sign an executive order involving the new ownership of TikTok. We'll be monitoring that. And a big shakeup at Starbucks. Store closures and job cuts as well. Part of the turnaround plan that is currently being executed.
Carl Quintanilla (2:00)
Let's begin with Intel. Extending yesterday's 6% gain, sparked by these published reports, which say the company has approached Apple about investing in the chip maker, part of efforts to boost a business now partially owned by the US government. The report adds that both companies have discussed how to work together more closely. Talks are in the early stage may not lead to an agreement, Jim, but the reporting suggests exploring new ways to cooperate.
Jim Cramer (2:23)
It could be. I don't think either company really has. It's like neither here nor there. It just reported. I know that Intel is looking for fundraisers wherever they can. That's the botanical. He recognizes the balance. He can't sustain what they want to do. It doesn't mean that they can't do exactly what they're doing now, but they have big plans. David, we're at that moment now where I think we should be, let's say, suspect, suspicious of any of these deals. Why? Because the idea that Intel is like a flailing company, the stock has moved up big, we know that they've got money from a bunch of people. They have government money, they have salt bank money, they have Nvidia money. I think that they could be interested in money from anyone. I don't know why this came down to Apple. Apple does not have a close relationship with Intel.
David Faber (3:15)
I know. What does it actually signify then, in your opinion?
Jim Cramer (3:19)
It's kind of a fury.
David Faber (3:20)
Signifying nothing? I mean.
Jim Cramer (3:21)
Yes.
David Faber (3:22)
Is it Intel's endless need to just have capital?
Jim Cramer (3:26)
Yes. Well, I mean, look, you have a picture of a cow field. Intel is supposed to be building a plan. I mean, look, Intel is a real company. It's not a joke company. It's got to be saved. Everyone recognizes it as a national treasure. But we can speculate about this. I could replace that with oracle if you want.
You can be serious. I'm saying that that may not be a serious story.
David Faber (3:47)
Yeah. No, I don't know. It's reporting in Bloomberg, I think is where we're talking about this report coming from. So I have no idea.
And I don't know how valid it is or how important it is, Jim. And certainly the numbers we're talking about here, again, back to our conversation from yesterday and what will continue to be pale in comparison to what we see almost every day in terms of investments about expanding data centers and the ability to launch, whether they're large language models or inference models or everything else having to do with anything related to AI. Those numbers far exceed whatever what Intel's taken in, five billion from NVIDIA.
Jim Cramer (4:27)
Right.
David Faber (4:28)
It will be 10% or roughly 10 billion from the US government. And now they're looking for some more.
Jim Cramer (4:34)
Well, I think, you know, Lipp Buh has been very honest about needing more money. So I think that he would talk to anybody. Carl, I think the more important story right now is that we have a wholesale roll over speculative, speculative stocks. Everyone. So it may, Intel's obviously important because the story was broken, but everything's down and they're down bad. Nuclear's down really big. Quantum's down really big except for IBM.
