It's like, how do you even keep up with everything going on these days, right? There's just so much happening all the time.

SPEAKER_2 (0:05)

Yeah, totally. I mean, you've got work and life and all the things, and then you've got to try to stay informed, too.

SPEAKER_1 (0:11)

That's exactly. You want those key insights, but who has time to scroll endlessly through all the news and updates? Nobody, right? That's where we come in. This is the deep dive, where we take all those sources, all those articles and updates, and pull out the stuff that'll really make you go, interesting.

SPEAKER_2 (0:27)

Your curated short-tut to being in the know.

SPEAKER_1 (0:30)

That's it. So today, we're looking at all sorts of things. AI, obviously.

SPEAKER_2 (0:36)

Of course.

SPEAKER_1 (0:36)

Some big funding rounds, some legal stuff, some changes in the business world. Some really unexpected stuff actually.

SPEAKER_2 (0:43)

There are some real head-scratchers in here for sure.

SPEAKER_1 (0:45)

Ready to dive in.

SPEAKER_2 (0:46)

Let's do it. It's all about connecting the dots, right? Seeing how these seemingly separate stories actually paint a bigger picture.

SPEAKER_1 (0:53)

Yeah, exactly. So I don't know about you, but with all the AI talk lately, this one really jumped out at me. It's about copyright. Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_2 (1:02)

Anthropic, the company behind the AI, Claude, they just had a pretty big win in court.

SPEAKER_1 (1:08)

Oh, really?

SPEAKER_2 (1:09)

Yeah. A judge in California decided not to block them from using song lyrics to train Claude.

SPEAKER_1 (1:14)

Lyrics?

SPEAKER_2 (1:15)

Yeah. Lyrics owned by Universal Music Group and others. Feels kind of big, doesn't it? Like in terms of this whole debate about AI and what it can learn from.

SPEAKER_1 (1:23)

Oh, absolutely. It's a huge can of worms, really. This case, as Reuters reported, puts the spotlight on this whole tension between how fast AI is developing and the laws we have about intellectual property, copyright, all that. And the judge's decision not to block them, it kind of suggests that, at least for now, the courts are leaning towards letting these AIs learn from tons of data even if some of it's copyrighted.

SPEAKER_2 (1:50)

So what do you think that means going forward?

SPEAKER_1 (1:52)

Well, that's the million dollar question, isn't it? Does this open the floodgates for AI training on all sorts of copyrighted stuff, or will we see more legal challenges? It's tough to say for sure. Yeah, no kidding, it could really change things. Okay, let's shift gears a bit. From the courtroom to, well, actual dirt. There's this startup, Earth AI., that just made some potentially really significant discoveries in Australia. They found critical minerals, and get this, they used AI to do it. Wow.

Yeah, and apparently these deposits are in areas that traditional mining companies have been overlooking for, like forever.

SPEAKER_2 (2:28)

Huh, that's fascinating. So they're basically finding stuff that everyone else missed just by using new technology.

SPEAKER_1 (2:34)

Seems that way. The CEO of Earth AI., Roman Teselig, he said something that really stuck with me. He said, the real frontier in mining isn't geographical anymore, it's technological.

SPEAKER_2 (2:44)

I like that. It's like, we've already mapped the physical world, now it's time to map the data.

SPEAKER_1 (2:49)

Exactly. And what they found is pretty impressive. Copper, cobalt, gold in the Northern Territory.

SPEAKER_2 (2:56)

Not bad.

SPEAKER_1 (2:56)

And then silver, molybdenum, tin over in New South Wales, which is like 310 miles northwest of Sydney. 500 kilometers if you prefer metric.

SPEAKER_2 (3:04)

It's amazing how AI is breathing new life into such an old industry, isn't it? It's not what you typically think of when you think cutting-edge tech.

SPEAKER_1 (3:12)

Totally. It's like, who knew AI could be a prospector? Okay, let's talk money now. Specifically, the big money flowing into startups and companies doing interesting things.

SPEAKER_2 (3:22)

All right. Funding rounds. Always a good indicator of where the innovation is happening.

SPEAKER_1 (3:26)

For sure. First up, AMBOSS, a Berlin-based company. They've been around for 12 years, and they just snagged a cool $259.4 million.

SPEAKER_2 (3:36)

Okay, what do they do?

SPEAKER_1 (3:37)

They provide digital reference tools and study resources for medical students and health care professionals.

SPEAKER_2 (3:43)

So, EdTech for the medical world.

SPEAKER_1 (3:46)

Yeah, pretty much. The big names we're in on this one, CureR, KBI, LightRock, M&G Investments. If you're in health care or education, definitely worth keeping an eye on them.

SPEAKER_2 (3:55)

It makes sense, right? Health care is such a crucial field, and there's always a need for reliable, up-to-date information and education. Investors see that, and they see the potential for a solid return.
