Doree Shafrir (0:10)

Hello, and welcome to Forever35 podcast about the things we do to take care of ourselves. I'm Doree Shafrir.

Elise Hu (0:18)

And I'm Elise Hu. And we're just two friends who like to talk a lot about serums.

Doree Shafrir (0:22)

And today on the show, we have someone who I couldn't believe we hadn't had on yet, to be honest.

Elise Hu (0:29)

Oh, yeah, I assumed that you had.

Doree Shafrir (0:31)

I know. I was like, how have we never had her on? It's Anna Holmes who, as we discuss in the interview, we have known each other for 20 years, which is like, feels crazy to say. But when I was at Gawker in 2006, she was hired by Nick Denton to launch Jezebel. And so those first few months that I was at Gawker, before Jezebel launched, she was there figuring out the site and hiring people and building it. And so, yeah, so I've known her for a really long time.

And it's just kind of crazy now to be like, oh yeah, that was 20 years ago. I cannot believe that.

Elise Hu (1:16)

But it all counts. I mean, she made such a mark on media.

Doree Shafrir (1:19)

She really did.

Elise Hu (1:20)

I wish Jezebel, at least the archives of Jezebel were still around, you know, because-

Doree Shafrir (1:25)

Jezebel still exists.

Elise Hu (1:26)

But did they keep the archives? I feel like something went away, like where we can't get as much of old Jezebel as we used to.

Doree Shafrir (1:34)

Yeah, that could be the case. You know, I'm looking at the site right now. They have a latest feed, so they have stuff from like today.

But then they have a little thing up top that says, haunting the Jezebel catacombs. And there's stories from 2016, 2019, and 2022 up there. So maybe they do have their archives up. I don't know. Or maybe they only go back a certain amount, but they do have some old, it looks like they do have some old stuff up there. So I don't know.

Elise Hu (2:02)

And they have a cover story about Army Hammers Shaman. Hmm, might have to, might have to click on that later.

Yeah. I'll come back to that if I have time.

Doree Shafrir (2:14)

Okay, sounds good. What else is going on, Elise?

Elise Hu (2:19)

Well, this is a show about how we take care of ourselves, and I'm going to be taking care of myself. I am going off to Park City this weekend, which I never, I think I've only been there once, one other time in my life, and I didn't spend much time there. I was there for a story.

I'm going to Park City with a good friend of mine and Forever35 listener, Pamela. Shout out to Pamela. And we're just gonna hang out. We're just having a little catch up weekend. We used to hang out and knock around Soul together a lot because she was based in Hong Kong. Yeah. And since we've both repatriated to the States, I think this is the first time we're just gonna be able to hang out the two of us somewhere. So, looking forward to that. Gonna get a massage, gonna eat a lot of food, things I enjoy. And then in my serum news, I ordered a bunch of eyebrow pencils from Korea, straight from Seoul recently.

Doree Shafrir (3:20)

Okay.

Elise Hu (3:20)

And when you buy skincare products at any of the storefronts in Seoul, they will also give you like a trick or treat bag full of samples. So, I have about like 16 samples of things.

And last night, I decided to try something called Super Cool Cooling Solution. As you can see here, it's just called Super Cool.

Doree Shafrir (3:43)

Yeah. Okay.

Elise Hu (3:44)

It's from www.menthology.com. So, you can guess how it felt on my skin.

Doree Shafrir (3:51)

Super cool?

Elise Hu (3:53)

Super cooling. You know, like the tingly scalp shampoo?

Doree Shafrir (3:58)

Yes.

Elise Hu (3:58)

It was like that, but on your face. Oh.

Anna Holmes (4:03)

It was very cooling.

Elise Hu (4:04)

Yeah, it was a surprise. I was like, ooh, refreshing.

Wow. I want to say that because I'm not usually, I usually don't have the menthol effect on my face. I'm not sure if I want it for a regular part of my skincare regimen.

Doree Shafrir (4:23)

I mean, that's fair. I did try the D'you, you know, that brand?

Yeah, I tried their under eye, their reusable under eye patches.

Elise Hu (4:35)

Oh, yes. Love those patches.
