Untraditionally Lala
October 9, 2026

Hello, gorgeous, it's Lala Kent. Welcome to Untraditionally Lala.
Hello, my loves. Welcome back to another episode of An Unlikely Affair. I am here with my heartbeat. Hello, Ambyr.
Ambyr Childers (0:20)
Hello, my love.
Lala Kent (0:22)
Are you sick of me yet?
Ambyr Childers (0:23)
No.
Lala Kent (0:24)
Because you know, when you lived in Montana, there was the distance, but now it's like, up, skipping a jump away.
Ambyr Childers (0:30)
You're not kidding. We're so close. I love it.
Lala Kent (0:33)
You do?
Ambyr Childers (0:34)
Yes, I'm so happy.
Lala Kent (0:35)
We work out together, we podcast together, we midday matcha together.
Ambyr Childers (0:39)
We do it all.
SPEAKER_3 (0:40)
Love a good midday match.
Lala Kent (0:44)
People have been asking so many questions about like our obsessions, whether it's TV shows, music, skincare. So I thought that that would be like a cute little episode for us to do today.
What are we watching? Can I tell you what I'm fascinated by right now?
Ambyr Childers (1:02)
What?
Lala Kent (1:03)
Is every time I talk to you, you've told me a new reality show that you've started. And I'm like, who is this person I'm talking to? I know. She's talking about the appreciation for how different reality shows are shot, what storylines are captured.
Ambyr Childers (1:19)
Yeah, it's true. I'm really obsessed with watching reality. And it takes a lot for me to find a good scripted show, and they're out there. But at the end of the day, and you probably gave me that little hook, because when I was coming out here to LA, we was either friends or Seinfeld at night.
Lala Kent (1:39)
Yeah.
Ambyr Childers (1:39)
And so having that noise in the background, I kind of like it.
Lala Kent (1:44)
I know. It is nice.
Ambyr Childers (1:45)
It is so nice. So yeah, I think one of my obsessions right now is, oh, fuck me, I can't believe I'm even saying this, is reality.
Lala Kent (1:56)
I know.
Ambyr Childers (1:57)
I know. Who am I? Who am I?
Lala Kent (2:02)
Well, I, because obviously we can't share what's to come, but I told Ambyr because of what's to come, you know, you need to watch a little bit of reality TV just to, you know, see.
Ambyr Childers (2:17)
Get the vibe.
Lala Kent (2:18)
Get the vibe. And also everyone's formula is so different. Like Hulu shows, reality shows, they're like newer to the reality game, but it's such a different vibe than like what Bravo makes. So can you tell me what your favorite one is that you've watched or been watching?
Ambyr Childers (2:37)
Well, so I started with Love Thy Nader, and then you're like, okay, I want you to watch something else. And I was like, okay, I'm not ready to watch Housewives. And then...
Lala Kent (2:46)
Can I ask you something?
Ambyr Childers (2:47)
Yes.
Lala Kent (2:48)
Why did you feel like you weren't ready for Housewives?
Ambyr Childers (2:51)
It just felt like a little too... Toxic. Like dramatic. Like I'm not ready for that good...
Although it's funny, I do love, like I'm really interested in watching Salt Lake City because I've heard it from you and I heard it from so many other people. People are obsessed with Salt Lake City.
Lala Kent (3:17)
I know.
Ambyr Childers (3:17)
And I feel like it's not... It's weird. I'm not from Salt Lake, but I feel like the whole growing up Mormon and that whole environment, I just feel like Salt Lake City is my kind of real Housewives in a way.
Lala Kent (3:32)
Yeah.
Ambyr Childers (3:32)
And I also love Atlanta because the girls there are just... They're just so... I mean, it's reality.
Lala Kent (3:40)
Well, they're authentic.
Ambyr Childers (3:41)
Yeah.
They're not performing. And that's the kind of reality I want to watch. I want to watch the reality that it's not a performative reality show. It's not like cameras are up. OK, let's be like over the top. It's real life situations happening. And they're just... There's almost in a way no self-awareness that makes good television.
Lala Kent (3:59)
Oh, yeah. It's brilliant. I will say for everyone raved about Salt Lake when it first came out. And I was like, I feel like it's good. But like they're obviously very aware that there are cameras around and have obviously seen Housewives before, and maybe they're trying to just like implement things that they've seen on TV into their own show.
The past, I think they're on season seven, the past like three seasons, they've crushed. And I think it's because Jen Shaw left, and so and she was a huge like piece of the drama. And you couldn't rely on that anymore. So it was like, we all have to be, you know, we have to be in it and we have to share every thought and everything that's going on in our lives. This last episode that they aired, which was the first episode of the new season, in my opinion, was the greatest first episode of reality TV, maybe even the greatest episode of reality TV, I think, ever made.
