At the age of 21, when I had the heart attack, it scared me straight. I wanted to live, and I couldn't afford another bad food. I couldn't afford another.
Rashad Bilal (0:07)
What's the biggest thing that you had to stop eating or consuming for your health to improve?
Yahki Awakened (0:12)
Meat is not made for my digestive system.
Rashad Bilal (0:14)
Why is meat bad?
Yahki Awakened (0:16)
We chew, meat eaters don't chew. They literally rip, tear and swallow. And it'll be processed and be out of their bodies within a couple of hours or 24 hours to two days. You can eat a steak and that same steak will stay in your system for like five years, man. And then the chemicals that they're putting in it, they're lying on the labels, like they will literally re-tag the meat if it don't get sold.
Rashad Bilal (0:35)
What should you be eating?
Yahki Awakened (0:36)
We are literally made to eat fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, seeds and grains.
Troy Millings (0:41)
When you travel, like how do you view foods as you go?
Yahki Awakened (0:44)
How can I eat the same thing here in the Americas, but I go somewhere else across seas, eat the same thing, but I have a different biological reaction from it. I think they monetize it off of our death, man, because everything that benefits them kills us.
Rashad Bilal (0:57)
We have the greatest epidemic of a chronic illness and it's because of ultra processed foods.
Yahki Awakened (1:02)
We go get ultra processed foods, then we eat it and then we ultra process it again through our biology. And that's the reason why we get nothing from it. And then it starts changing our DNA and changing our cellular structure. So whenever you eat an ultra processed food, you eat in the digestive part of the food.
Rashad Bilal (1:17)
We're seeing an uptick in childhood obesity. We're seeing ADHD. We're seeing diabetes. It's an epidemic and it only seems like it's getting worse.
Yahki Awakened (1:25)
I think it's the screen time in those blue lights, because blue lights do make you fat.
Rashad Bilal (1:29)
That slows your metabolism?
Yahki Awakened (1:30)
Oh man, slows it down majorly, man.
Rashad Bilal (1:35)
All right. Welcome back. Very important educational episode.
Troy Millings (1:39)
Absolutely.
Rashad Bilal (1:40)
We got the good brother, Yahki Awakened. What's up, my brother? How you doing?
Yahki Awakened (1:43)
Feeling good. Good to see you brothers' faces, man.
Troy Millings (1:46)
Yeah, this one's long overdue.
Yahki Awakened (1:48)
Yeah, definitely, definitely, definitely.
Rashad Bilal (1:49)
So we did Blackout, and obviously you was at Invest Fest, but I want to talk about... Let's revisit the origin story before we talk about everything else that you got going on. Like I said, we touched on it on Blackout, but let's get the full version of it. I know you're from St. Louis, Missouri.
Yahki Awakened (2:06)
From St. Louis, Missouri.
Rashad Bilal (2:07)
You had a heart attack.
Yahki Awakened (2:08)
At the age of 21
Rashad Bilal (2:10)
Okay, so yeah, so for the people that may not be familiar with your story, kinda tell them how you got here.
Yahki Awakened (2:14)
Well, so at the age of 21, I attacked my heart. I'm gonna use that terminology.
Drinking, smoking, doing recreational drugs, not sleeping, being in the music industry, traveling, touring, just never get no sleep, and eating everything under the sun, and just doing a bunch of recreational drugs. And just, I mean, just living a horrible life. So cholesterol was high, my kidneys, I was having kidney issues since I was like 17 All that drinking I was doing, I had my first bottle when I was nine years old. So, you know, I grew up in the streets, around street dudes. So it was introduced to me super early. I remember smoking my first blunt, I was probably like 10 So just getting addicted to that type of lifestyle and all of that accumulation and toxicity was in my body. Then I end up attacking my heart at the age of 21 At the age of 21, when I had the heart attack, it scared me straight. So what I did was I just, I got home, I said, I'm finna change my whole lifestyle. I threw away everything, got kicked out with my medicine. Cause I was on hypertension medication when I was 21 For a whole year, I couldn't even get an erection from the side effects from the medication.
Rashad Bilal (3:25)
But you were still on the streets at the age?
Yahki Awakened (3:27)
21, yup. So I was up into the streets all the way until 21 I was dibbling and dabbling even after I had that heart issue. But I was pretty much done with it. I was pretty much done with it at that time. But at that time I had turned on YouTube.
