AI Hardware & Chips Daily News I will be hoped to be that. I'm Jamie Cole, thanks for joining me. Today She Trump AI Hotline Smoke and Mirrors on Chips Trump and She agreed this week to open a bilateral AI incident hotline. And the chip controls untouched. That's the story.
The summit on the 24th and 25th produced two things, a communications channel for AI safety incidents, and something called the Super Intelligence Dialogue. Both sound significant. The important distinction is that neither touches semiconductor export restrictions. The controls that limit China's access to advanced AI chips remain exactly where they were. The hotline is real. The chip policy is frozen.
The signal here is deliberate. Both sides want a framework for coexistence on AI safety without conceding anything on hardware competition. For Nvidia and AMD, that means China's strategy stays constrained. The dialogue is a diplomatic layer sitting on top of an unchanged technology competition. Don't confuse the two. A&D crossed the $1 trillion market cap threshold this week, and the data behind it is hard to dismiss. Data center revenue came in at $6.72 billion in quarter two, up 107% year over year.
That's now 58% of AMD's total revenue mix.
The shift is structural, not cyclical. CEO Lisa Su signaled more than doubling of data center revenue in 2027
That confidence is backed by locked commitments from Anthropic, OpenAI and Meta for the Helios Mi450, with power commitments ranging from 2 to 6 gigawatts. That's real forward visibility. The bare case deserves equal weight. US export controls on the Mi308 already cost AMD $440 million in charges. Gaming revenue fell 31% year-over-year in Q2. And the Helios ramp depends on substrate, HBM memory and advanced packaging supply that remains globally tight. Su's guidance is credible only if the Skychain cooperates. The more quietly important development is the growing divergence between ASML and Nvidia in analyst positioning. ASML's order backlog at year-end 2025 exceeded its full year revenue. Management raised 2026 guidance to imply over 30% growth. The EUV monopoly gives ASML pricing power and visibility that most hardware names simply can't match. Here's the thing. A Seaport analyst note this week flagged TSMC's capacity bottleneck as a ceiling on upside for Nvidia and Broadcom. More demand won't automatically translate to more shipments if the foundry can't scale fast enough.
That constraint is why ASML's structural position looks increasingly attractive relative to companies sitting downstream of the same bottleneck. That matters because supply chain leverage is concentrating. ASML makes the machines. TSMC runs the machines. Everyone else waits. The macro context shifted sharply. The 10-year treasury yield climbed to 5.23%, the highest level since June 2007 Hawkish Fed Signals and Iran-driven Energy Spike and Hot PMI data all pushed yields higher within days. For AI hardware stocks carrying stretch valuations, that's not comfortable.
AMD is trading at 235 times trailing earnings. Nvidia's capacity constrained while bundling strategies try to hold growth momentum.
Rising rates don't break the AI hardware thesis, but they do test where the current multiples can hold if the rate environment stays here or moves higher.
Consider this, one name worth watching carefully is Qualcomm. Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi each represent over 10% of Qualcomm's revenue. Apple's expected shift to internal modems removes a meaningful revenue block. China trade tension adds another pressure point. The valuation looks cheaper than ASML, but cheaper doesn't automatically mean better when the revenue base has that kind of concentration risk. The real tests in the near term are three. Whether the AMD Helios supply chain can actually deliver on Su's 2027 guidance. Whether Bondield stabilize or keep moving, because another led hire reprices semiconductor growth assumptions materially.
And whether the US-China AI hotline produces any published operating rules, because right now it's a framework without mechanics. The chip export controls are the floor of this story. Everything else, the hotlines, the dialogues, the market caps, sits on top of that unchanged foundation. Watch the controls. Thanks for listening. This podcast was built using AI technology.
