Amazon barred Meta's Muse AI from shopping on its site.

Joby Aviation completed a fully autonomous cross-country flight.

And Gavin Newsom wants to implement a kill switch for Frontier AI models. It's Monday, September 21st. And here's a quick look at some of the news happening in the sphere of tech this morning. From Engadget.

The AI companies are fighting over turf. Amazon has blocked Meta's newest AI agent from accessing its online shop. That's according to a report by Geekwire. Anyone using Meta's Muse to shop on Amazon is now being greeted with the message, Continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's conditions of use, to which our customers have agreed. Amazon claims that it initially asked Meta to voluntarily exclude its site from Muse's reach. An Amazon spokesperson said, We think it's fairly straightforward that third-party applications offered to make purchases on behalf of customers from other businesses should operate openly and respect service provider decisions about whether or not to participate. Meta launched Muse earlier this month as a secure private personal AI agent that proactively helps with people's goals and suggests ideas. It can fill out forms, send emails, and shop using a generated single-use card from Link by Stripe. Amazon is reportedly frustrated that Muse does not make itself known while browsing its website. The company also believes Muse poses privacy and security risks, including access to and retention of customers' information. Meta claims otherwise. In its Muse announcement, the company stated, Muse has no visibility into people's passwords or payment methods. Any credentials a person shares goes into secure storage, so Muse can use them without seeing them, including passwords a person types into the browser themselves.

Joby Aviation has claimed the first ever autonomous flight across the US after it outfitted an aircraft with its autonomous flight system to complete the journey without human input. The trip started from California's Buchanan Field Airport and finished at Dare County Regional Airport and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, totaling 3,200 miles. Joby said it integrated its autonomy tech into a converted Cessna Caravan, which was able to do everything from taxiing, takeoff, cruising and landing on its own without any control inputs from an onboard safety pilot. Besides a human monitor on the aircraft, Joby remotely supervised the aircraft at its headquarters in California and at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. After completing its eastbound leg, Joby's autonomous aircraft will now travel back westward and make pit stops in cities including Raleigh, Salt Lake City and Portland, Oregon. Outside its latest autonomous achievement, Joby is better known for its piloted air taxis that are fully electric, which it began demoing in New York City back in April and is planning to launch to the public later on this year. However, Joby's latest stunt could expand the startup's capabilities beyond quicker commutes in busy cities. The company said that its autonomous flight can be integrated into existing aircraft and be used for areas like commercial freight, emergency response, or defense logistics applications.
