Hi, I'm Molly Jong-Fast, and this is Fast Politics, where we discuss the top political headlines with some of today's best minds. And the Pentagon is planning to purchase 1 million drones. We have such a great show for you today, Run for Something's Amanda Litman stops by to talk about the hidden forces helping Dems win the midterms. Then we'll talk to journalist Elliott Rodriguez about their run to flip Florida's 27th District. But first, the news.
SPEAKER_2 (0:30)
Molly, Trump has an AI quote-unquote constitution. And I'm sure you were just thinking you were watching a runway show, when you saw how everyone was dressed at this summit today.
Molly Jong-Fast (0:42)
So all of the tech oligarchs went to the White House to meet with Donald Trump. And there Donald Trump did exactly what you would expect him to do. He changed the name of AI to SI, like Sports Illustrated. He berated CNN, and he did nothing else, basically. I mean, you know, this is like typical of Trump. He said he's going to write a constitution with a lot of commonality, and praise for what he described as tremendous self-policing, better. I mean, Trump's not going to police it.
It's a lot of vague nothingness, a lot of bread and circuses, and not much else.
SPEAKER_2 (1:31)
Can I tell you my favorite part of the bread and circus?
Molly Jong-Fast (1:33)
Yes.
SPEAKER_2 (1:34)
David Sacks went to X, and he said...
Molly Jong-Fast (1:37)
I'm blocked by him on X.
SPEAKER_2 (1:41)
You know, you're really missing out. You could be seeing, see, we're the most boring man. You lie all day. Anyway, he said that this is clear that the companies were accepting responsibility for AI safety. So I want us to put a pin in that. So when something goes wrong, we can blame them for the lack of AI safety.
Molly Jong-Fast (1:58)
This is, by the way, the document where they misspelled the United States, right?
SPEAKER_2 (2:02)
Yes.
Molly Jong-Fast (2:03)
Yeah. I mean, I like that.
SPEAKER_2 (2:06)
Which is the most ChatGPT thing to do possible, in my opinion.
Molly Jong-Fast (2:10)
This is such a fascinating story in the fact that here is a president who does not want to do any regulation for a company with a bunch of CEOs who do not want any regulation. So in some ways, they do have the same, you know, making a show of regulation because the midterms are a little more than a month away. Yeah.
SPEAKER_2 (2:33)
OK. But in other AI news, we have other big news out of the government, of course, which is, yes, we have our new America dot gov AI chatbot. And I don't know if your social media feed was anything like mine yesterday, but all I did was watch people break this with others, with funny things like saying, can you do the Macarena and it just would crash?
Molly Jong-Fast (2:53)
Yeah. And you'll be, you know, my favorite thing about AI is that it doesn't work that well. So except sometimes when it does work and then the Trump administration needs to fix it, quote unquote. And that's what happened here.
Basically, if you ask the chatbot who won the 2020 election, it says the person who won the 2020 election and not the person who didn't win the 2020 election. In case you're wondering, the person who did not win the 2020 election was one Donald Trump. And so america.gov chatbot is in the service of Donald Trump. And so he fixed it. So now it says he won the election. I mean, again, we laugh, but it's actually really bad.
SPEAKER_2 (3:43)
Because we're pure or pure or well, like this is the like I recently watched that or well documentary that just came out. And like, it was called Orwell plus 1984, I believe. And it really puts a fine point on like, it basically says, here's what we're coming. We're looking at soon is that they're going to use AI to rewrite history.
Molly Jong-Fast (4:05)
And that's where we are right now is that they're you know, that's what they're doing. And that's what, you know, when you see Elon Musk talking about like making AI un-woke, what he means is making Grok so that it lies. I mean, this is not un-woke, this is just his truth.
And so this kind of thing, you know, who won the 2020 election, we all know that Joe Biden won the 2020 election. If Donald Trump had won, he would have been president and he wouldn't be president now, which would be nice.
SPEAKER_2 (4:37)
Yeah, well, welcome to the true double-speak era. We were heading towards it and we've been smacked in the face with it now. So, Ken Paxton, the Mr. Bede of America politics.
