You have this weird shadow on your face.
Kara Swisher (1:23)
Oh, I know, because I'm leaning forward. I'm just getting something.
I'm scaring you, Scott.
Scott Galloway (1:29)
We don't need shadows for that. Hi, everyone.
Kara Swisher (1:35)
This is Pivot from New York Magazine, the Vox Media Podcast Network. I'm Kara Swisher.
Scott Galloway (1:39)
And I'm Scott Galloway.
Kara Swisher (1:40)
Scott, I just did an interview with Jess Tarloff, her side piece, or you're the her side piece, really, I think. I think that's how I'm going to characterize it now.
Scott Galloway (1:47)
Tell us about it. You're interviewing her about her book.
Kara Swisher (1:48)
For her book. For her book. Yeah. It's called, I Disagree, and it's about getting along better even in disagreement. This would do often, actually.
Scott Galloway (1:57)
Our book would so be called, And I Was Right by Kara Swisher.
Kara Swisher (2:01)
No.
Scott Galloway (2:02)
You mean, let's rake Scott over the calls for something stupid he said off mic that my friends are giving me a hard time on?
Kara Swisher (2:08)
Well, why do you keep saying stupid things off mic, on mic?
Scott Galloway (2:12)
Stupid is, stupid does, whatever Forrest Gomp used to say.
Kara Swisher (2:15)
But Scott, seriously, here's how my day went this week. I think I was at a kid thing. Phone rings. Mayor of San Francisco.
Scott Galloway (2:23)
Uh-oh.
Kara Swisher (2:24)
Sorry.
Scott Galloway (2:25)
Let me just apologize up front.
Kara Swisher (2:27)
Girl, what the fuck, essentially. He doesn't talk like that because Daniel Lurie is the nicest person on the planet. He is. He's like, hey, Scott said something. I said, I fucking saw it. He took one block.
He went on the worst block of San Francisco and then decided all of San Francisco is like that. I said, I heard that fucker. He goes, no, no. I see he has a point of view, but we've been working.
Scott Galloway (2:50)
He's infinitely reasonable.
Kara Swisher (2:52)
I was like, don't be reasonable for that asshole. But then I gave him your phone number and did he call you? He called you.
Scott Galloway (2:59)
Just some context for the listeners. I was in San Francisco for our ODU, whatever it was we were doing.
I love the Austin proper in Austin, and so I stayed at the San Francisco proper, which I would describe as dark and dingy but expensive.
I love San Francisco. I have huge affection for it. I think physically it's the most beautiful city in the Union. My sister and I, I said, let's walk to Cafe Zuni. I haven't been there in 25 years. I love that restaurant. We walked, I guess it was about a mile. I looked it up on maps. I said, it will be nice to walk. Quite frankly, it just felt very, very ugly and very dystopian in terms of the number of homeless, number of people struggling.
I went on the next day on the podcast and I said, look, San Francisco still has real problems. I said, I saw hundreds of homeless. Of course, it got clipped, San Francisco still sucks. My sister, to her credit, who is more center right than I am center left, said it's gotten better. She said, we're in a really bad part of town right now. Anyways, I said this, the clip goes viral because people understandably got offended and pushed back on douchebag from New York and London shitposting San Francisco with a misrepresentative sample. I get a 415 call, which I never answer if it's unidentified, but for some reason I pick it up and I hear, Scott, it's Mayor Lurie. I'm like, oh, fuck.
