It's September 12th. From game day to every day, this is New York Rangers News Today, powered by AI.

Adam Sykora got a taste of the NHL last season, playing 11 games with the New York Rangers. He even put up 3 goals, showing some real grit despite his size. He said that experience was unbelievable and super motivating, and now he's determined to get back there. The path to the NHL roster is looking pretty crowded though. The Rangers brought in some new talent like Pavel Dorofyev, Ily Tovinen, and Oliver Björkstrand, plus they've got guys like Will Cahill and Ty.

Cardi already in the mix. It seems like there aren't many open spots, especially in the bottom 6 forward group where Sykora fits best. He's also waiver exempt, which makes it easier for the team to send him down to the minors if needed. But he's been working on his game, focusing on defensive zone play and improving his forechecking, which fits the system the Rangers coach likes. He's really trying to mold himself into that ideal bottom 6 player. With a shorter preseason this year, there are fewer games for players like Sykora to prove themselves. He sees the upcoming rookie camp games as a chance to get a head start and show he belongs. He likes playing games and competition, so he's happy to get those extra reps in. Beyond just making the Rangers, Sykora also wants to make a good impression on the new coaching staff for their AHL team, the Hartford Wolf Pack. They had a rough season last year and brought in a new crew.

Sykora, with his experience, wants to be a leader and help everyone get ready for the next step.
