Let's say a student came up to you and said, Hey, Professor Grant, I need your help.

I just feel lonely, man. Even when I'm with people, I feel lonely. They'll invite me to a party and I still feel lonely. I'll go out with them, I'll feel lonely. I just don't feel like I have people in my life. What would your advice be?

Adam Grant (0:20)

I think my advice would be to change your rituals for how you interact. This is why so many super teams fail to win in their first year, is they haven't figured out how to vibe yet. You got a bunch of individual stars, but I will bet on the team with more shared experience over the more talented team that's never figured out how to collaborate. And so a group of researchers get together and say, what if we could look at people's rate of professional misconduct by whether they're Ashley Madison users or not?

And what the data showed was you can look at CEOs, you can look at police officers, you can look at investment analysts. Their rates of misconduct are two to three times higher if they cheat on their spouses.

Trevor Noah (1:05)

So if you invited me to a game night, I would come?

Adam Grant (1:07)

You would come to a game night?

Trevor Noah (1:08)

Thousand percent, yes.

Adam Grant (1:09)

Really? I've never asked you because I assumed we weren't pals.

Trevor Noah (1:12)

Nope. Thousand percent. Game night. I'm there like a bear in my...

Adam Grant (1:16)

Will you travel for a day? How far are we going to see?

Trevor Noah (1:21)

Nothing. Oh, I was like, I don't know where this goes now.

This is What Now? with Trevor Noah.

Eugene (3:51)

You know, have you seen those people that wear... Because I watched some gangster movies, and then one thing that they always talk about is a chinchilla coat.

Trevor Noah (3:58)

Yes, yeah, yeah.

Adam Grant (4:00)

That used to be the thing.

Eugene (4:02)

The women wear chinchilla coats, and then, you know, that's the gangsters. No one has ever worn a gorilla fur coat.

Trevor Noah (4:11)

Is it still called fur when it's on a gorilla?

Is it, though? I don't know.

Adam Grant (4:17)

What else would you call it? Hair?

Trevor Noah (4:19)

I think it would be hair, no?

Eugene (4:22)

Is it fur?

Adam Grant (4:23)

It's a coat.

Eugene (4:24)

It's a coat, my man.

Adam Grant (4:24)

You don't have hair coats. You have fur coats.

Eugene (4:26)

But that's just because you don't make them.

SPEAKER_5 (4:29)

No, no, no, guys, gangsters.
