So, I've been thinking a lot about what it means to continue doing Yah Lah But. In these crazy times, there's always some dire news about how humans are going to be replaced, and how the media industry will be the first to be made redundant with AI taking over everything. But the funny thing is, a lot of listeners still come up to me with a message to keep doing what you're doing. I guess amidst all this chaos and uncertainty, sometimes we need to huddle together and make sense of the craziness in this world. Together, that's all we need to get through the day. So, do us a favour. If Yah Lah But has ever helped you feel a little less alone in this crazy world, help us hit the follow button on this app. It means a lot to us. Thanks for listening.

What's up everybody? Welcome to another episode of Yah Lah But. Your Thrive Weekly Podcast, where we talk about the hottest news with a touch of what? Terence.

Terence (0:50)

Good old humour.

Haresh (0:51)

Good old humour, man. How's the past week, man? How's the weekend?

Terence (0:57)

Not only feeling the raspiness in my voice, the haze obviously has blanketed the entirety of our region.

Haresh (1:05)

Yeah.

Terence (1:06)

I'm sure you felt it too.

Haresh (1:07)

Yeah. Have you been feeling it as well? I was in KL over the weekend, and I think Singapore is worse. KL was pretty shit also when it came to haze. The food was great, but the haze, and like going over the causeway, it really looks like you're like 4,000 metres above sea level amidst the clouds.

Terence (1:24)

Yeah. But then you step out of the car, and it's bloody warm. Yeah. You're still in like tropical Asia and everything. So it doesn't have the feeling. It has the look, right? But it doesn't have the feeling. Same thing. Yeah. I walk out, and I'm like, oh, it's like Silent Hill. But then I'm still sweating like I'm in Singapore.

If it came in cool weather, then maybe not so bad, but the hot weather and this haze is bad.

Haresh (1:47)

But it didn't balance out with your excitement. The given was F1 weekend.

Terence (1:51)

Yeah, man, F1 weekend. I mean, this is when Singapore comes to shine, right? And everyone before and after F1, all these big events, you know, CEO conferences, Forbes, Milken, now DBS also has their conference.

Haresh (2:06)

Yeah.

Terence (2:08)

A lot of big things happening. But you, can you explain to the audience why you escaped Singapore during the most important weekend of Singapore's tourism?

Haresh (2:17)

Because I have a very close cousin from Malaysia who is now based in Dubai, who had a daughter last year, whose one year birthday he wanted to celebrate in Malaysia because a lot of his family haven't seen the kid. So we went up lah. So I was going to visit family, Terence.

Terence (2:32)

So it's not about I want to get away from Singapore during F1 weekend and all?

Haresh (2:35)

No, no, no, no, no.

Terence (2:36)

Or I want to skip the Hays from Singapore. That's where I go.

Haresh (2:39)

If I skip the Hays, go KL.

I mean, doesn't mean that I would have enjoyed being in Singapore during F1 as well. It was a nice weekend to go up. But you know, you soaked it in.

Terence (2:50)

You inhaled it.

Watched the race, obviously, on MeWatch. Didn't partake in any parties unlike last year. Last year, we were in the middle of the parties. I think we attended more than one.

Haresh (3:06)

With models and people, who's who.

Terence (3:10)

This year, it's just FYI, everyone who thinks that we're not very cool. Last year, we attended F1 parties. This year, we didn't attend any parties. But yeah, I saw that there's a lot more, like I mentioned, all these global conferences happening before and after F1. So it really kind of shows that F1 is like the crown jewel in Singapore's global city calendar.

Everything is concentrated around this time. And yeah, even the DBS conference was after F1. So when you're like drunk and hungover, the next day you have a conference, you know, after Sunday, the race finish, next day you still have work to do.

Haresh (3:50)

Yeah, that means Lawrence couldn't get hungover.

Terence (3:54)

But he wasn't at the race itself. But Gan Kim Yong represented the government. He gave the prize every, as most years he does.

Haresh (4:01)

But you say it's the crown jewel of Singapore. Are you saying it with pride? Because like your demeanor, you know, when I first saw you today, it just wasn't, it was like the grinch.
