College football is back, so Hilton called on me, the superstition concierge, to make your fan rituals a reality. Need a room to match your lucky number? We got you. Want to make sure our team doesn't wash your lucky jersey? Oh, that smells lucky.

Hilton's unmatched hospitality can keep up with any superstition. Even a marching band wake up call at 5.55 and 55 seconds. Hit it. When you need a team that will do whatever it takes on game day, it matters where you stay.

SPEAKER_3 (1:08)

Hilton, for the stay.

Deanna Ting (1:19)

I think what's so special right now about barbecue, and it's not even just limited to New York, I think across the country is that you're seeing so much like kind of like specialization and like customization of barbecue to not just being what we think of in terms of the traditional senses or barbecue traditions.

Matt Rodbard (1:39)

This is TASTE. I'm your host, Matt Rodbard.

Resy's managing editor Deanna Ting is back to talk all about New York City restaurants. On this episode, we work through the Resy hit list with stops at a British Indian Chop House in Hudson Yards, the Houseman Chef Seafood Follow Up in East Williamsburg, Dominican Texas Barbecue in Bushwick, a fine dining vet's Greenpoint Bistro, plus we get Deanna's guide to 31 tasting and prefix menus under $100. This is a terrific conversation and I hope you enjoy it. Deanna Ting, welcome back to This Is TASTE. So great to see you.

Deanna Ting (2:24)

No, thank you so much. I'm so glad to be back.

Matt Rodbard (2:26)

I'm always, I always love talking with you about restaurants.

When we previously had you on last year, you were the editor of Resy New York. Now you're a managing editor and you're, you're editing so many cities.

Deanna Ting (2:38)

Yes, 10 cities and counting. But it keeps me busy, but I'm glad to do it. But still writing the New York Hit List, which is, which is a treat for me.

Matt Rodbard (2:46)

Which is the point of this conversation.

I love Resy, you know, of course, you guys are a partner of ours. And I just love that you're committing editorial to these markets. You're really keeping your eyes not on just New York and LA, but 10 markets. Talk about your work a little bit.

Deanna Ting (3:02)

Oh, gosh. Well, it was definitely a transition for me earlier this year to kind of move into a new role and start overseeing more cities. But I kind of took the same approach that I took to, you know, covering New York, really trying to get deep into like the heart of each city. Understanding the nuances of each one, what the dining scene is like, really working closely with our writers on the ground in those cities to kind of better understand them. And then just, you know, trying to tell interesting stories that people haven't necessarily seen before. And I'm trying to just work on that and keep at it.

Matt Rodbard (3:35)

So every one of these markets, you have a hit list every month and it's like where to eat. And there's some events mentioned in there.

What are some of the markets that you have a real presence in?

Deanna Ting (3:45)

Yeah, definitely. Well, the markets that I personally oversee as a managing editor now include New York, obviously, LA, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, Miami, DC, and then also Boston, Dallas, and Philadelphia. So we definitely have hit lists in all of those cities. And a couple more actually in addition to that. But it's really great. We always really rely on, you know, having these hit lists written by writers who are based in those cities and really intimately know the dining scene, know, you know, what's, what's buzzy.

They have the context and like the history to understand, like, you know, what are the long time institutions of that restaurant city. And so, yeah, it's great. It's great to have that.

SPEAKER_2 (4:35)

Yeah.

Deanna Ting (4:35)

Have that expertise on the ground.

Matt Rodbard (4:37)

Those are great markets. I mean, Philly, I mean, come on.
