Here we are, welcome back to another episode of the Aqua Strength Podcast. Jack and I have a really fun, interactive episode for you guys today. We do a lot of talking about swimming, about coaching, how swimmers should be training. We're not afraid to speak up and speak our minds. So we wanna put that into action today and talk about what we think a real week of training to be an elite level sprinter should look like.

But before we do that, I'm gonna let Jack take a brief moment to tell you about our incredible sponsor of today's episode.

Jack (0:56)

Guys, our sponsor today, the one, the only, Aqua Strength Athletes Online Program designed by a swimmer and polo player, built for swimmers and polo players. This team has now helped hundreds, which I couldn't be more stoked to say. It's helped hundreds of people from across the world train the way they're meant to train, to actually see progress, to be injury free, to perform better in the water without all those aches and pains. So if you would like to try the team, you can get an entire week free. It is on us, zero risk. Just check it out. The link is in my Instagram, or you can get it in the show notes. That is Aqua Strength Athletes, the online team. And one quick thing, one other quick thing before we get into the episode, there are two types of people that listen to our episodes, okay? There are the ones who listen, and then tell us after the fact through a text or a DM, or you know, when they see us. Guys, I love the show, it's just so sick, like keep up the great work, or we have nice disagreements, but we talk about things, it's awesome. We do this to open up the conversation, okay? And they share it, they share it, they post on their stories, they tell their friends about it, they put other listeners on. And then there's those people who listen and just never ever subscribe or share, and it hurts my heart.

But we still love you too, if you don't want to share, or if you don't like it, that's cool too. But we do ask that if you ever find value in our show, share with people because we want to get the message out there. We want to help as many parents, coaches, and swimmers as possible. We want to share knowledge, but we also want to open up conversations that we don't think are being had at a high enough level or loud enough. So please share the show.

All right, dude, I'm super excited for this. I think sometimes I think we can get carried away talking about the same things, and it's like we're beating the same drum on repeat. But one thing that you and I really talked about recently, Cal, is we want to share actionable steps. I don't want to just say sprinters do this, high school athletes do that. I want to actually break down how coaches and athletes can implement the things we are talking about. I think the podcast is a perfect place to dive in deeper and share some of these concepts in a structure. Because I think a lot of people, well, and again, this is because of social media and the way we post, I mean, you only get to post small carousel posts or 15-second reel, 20-second reel, and you have to have hooks. It's just different. But I think a lot of people may hear the things we say and think they're super controversial. And at times, I do think they are controversial.

But if we can really unpack what we're trying to say and we can do it in simple enough terms for people to understand us, then one, I think it shows that we truly know what we're talking about, which I believe we do. But two, I think we find out that we have more in common than we do different when we really talk about the principles behind our training methods and our ideas. So go ahead and get it kickstarted, Cal, maybe what you think or wherever you want to start.

Cal (3:51)

Yeah. Well, I have a couple of things I want to say before I start laying out my plan. Thing number one is I, if we're talking about the real life theoretical situation of I'm in the position of coaching a team and I'm laying out a full week of training for athletes, particularly who are looking to be elite level sprinters, 50, 100s, maybe a 200 free in there.

I want to make very clear it would not just be me, right? I have a certain skill set as a person and as a coach, but I think also it can't even be put into words how important it is to have a staff that has a variety of different prominent characteristics. So that's kind of the first step I would take is I would look for people who share foundational characteristics, such as joy, fun, and being a supportive coach. I think that having that staff, and then also making that the foundation of the team comes before anything else that we're about to talk about. And in my opinion, is by far the most important.
