American and Iranian forces have stopped shooting at each other for the time being, and now mediators are trying once again to make it stick.
Qatar and Pakistan are carrying messages back and forth between Washington and Tehran, and officials in the region say diplomacy is on the right track. President Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Well, Iran took a beating over the last 14 days, and they asked us very nicely, please stop, let's beat. And that's what we are right now.

Tehran publicly denies asking for a renewed ceasefire. Iran has continued to effectively shut down commercial traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, even as it has stopped shooting at US military bases in the region. President Trump says if the mediation fails, the US goes back to bombing.
Trump meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House today.
The war in Ukraine has outlasted four British Prime Ministers, and on Monday in the UK, President Volodymyr Zelensky met the fifth. Andy Burnham took office last week, and Zelensky is the first foreign leader he's hosted. They met aboard a British aircraft carrier, where Burnham vowed to honor every commitment Britain has made to Ukraine. And Zelensky told reporters.

The two leaders talked about building drones together and about Ukraine's need for interceptors to shoot down incoming Russian ballistic missiles. Burnham is also handing Ukraine the designs for a British jamming system to help hide drones from Russian air defenses. Zelensky heads to the White House this week looking for more air defenses.
Still, no relief from the heat for millions of Americans. Josh Weiss with the Weather Prediction Center says for most of this week through Friday, the hottest temperatures will span an area from the central Gulf Coast through Texas and up to Kansas and west to the Four Corners region. And exactly how hot will it be?

We're looking at high temperatures that will be 100 to 105, maybe locally 110 degrees. Those are air temperatures. And then some areas that will produce heat indices that will be 110 to 115 degrees.

But for the planes, Weiss says there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So if you're sitting in Kansas City or Oklahoma City, get through this week, it does look like it's going to relax a little bit as we head into the weekend. But if you're in the southwest, Phoenix, Las Vegas, those areas, this is just beginning.

Forecasters say daily records across the desert southwest are in jeopardy. The Washington Post reports that this month's heat wave has already blamed for at least 70 deaths across numerous states.
Gunmen in Nigeria have massacred at least 30 people in a farming village, eight of them children. The attackers burned homes and shops in a rampage that lasted several hours. A Nigerian Christian group said the victims were mainly Christians and called it an act of terrorism. Armed groups have raided Christian villages in the region for years and the Trump administration has named Nigeria one of the world's worst violators of religious freedom, adding it last year to a list of countries of particular concern for persecution.
A wildfire in southwest France has stopped spreading but remains a serious threat. World's Kristin Flavin has more.

The flames are still about nine miles away from Bordeaux, France's wine capital and a city of a quarter million people. The fire has burned an area four times the size of Paris and driven 220,000 people from their homes. President Emmanuel Macron calls it France's worst fire crisis since World War II.
