The political system is designed to keep us angry and divided, but who actually profits from the culture war?

Peter McCormack (0:00)

Do you think I'm racist?

Narinder Kaur (0:01)

No.

Peter McCormack (0:02)

Okay. But I equally support dealing with the immigration problem in this country, yet you will call other people racist for being anti-immigration. But I have the same feelings of them.

Narinder Kaur (0:13)

I'm calling you out, because you've got a problem with 1,300 asylum-seeker men because they're brown and black, but if there was 1,300 white men going in that area, would you be as vocal? Do you think private schools should be abolished?

Peter McCormack (0:25)

Absolutely not.

Narinder Kaur (0:26)

Why? Why not have?

Do you not believe in an equal society?

Peter McCormack (0:31)

I don't believe you can enforce...

Narinder Kaur (0:32)

Or it should start in the same place.

Peter McCormack (0:34)

But they never will. The problem is, that's communism. It's not possible.

Narinder Kaur (0:39)

Really, that's not communism. That's equality.

Peter McCormack (0:41)

And so what I'm saying is, the hypocrisy here is, you love going to India, I love going to India, but you love going because they're your people, and we've got people coming here saying, I don't want so many people coming here because these aren't my people, and you would say they're racist, but you're not racist, but it's double standards.

Narinder Kaur (0:56)

No that's not double standards, because therefore you didn't understand what I was saying, because what I'm saying is, I get so othered in this country, and I've suffered so much racism in this country, that it's a relief to go to India and just not have it.

Narinder Kaur (1:34)

I'm back again. Who knew it would be this soon?

Peter McCormack (1:38)

What was the response last time for you?

Narinder Kaur (1:40)

Actually, I think people didn't say much, did they? I didn't see any negative. Did you get negative comments? A little bit. I think what I do is I then mute myself and think I can't, my mental health can't take it.

Peter McCormack (1:52)

There was two types. There was the, we're the fuck you talking to her a lot, which I didn't care about. Then there's, it's good that two people who obviously disagree a lot are trying to talk. Good, good. I thought it was pretty good.

Narinder Kaur (2:04)

I did see one comment, the one comment I did see was, don't let it harm you, Peter. You keep your guard up with that one.

Peter McCormack (2:13)

I was thinking, what? Do you know what? The funny thing is, then now obviously, we come up in each other's feed, and I have seen the actual overt racism you get.

Narinder Kaur (2:21)

Yeah.

Peter McCormack (2:23)

Like, can I say some of it? Yeah, say it. The last one I saw was like, so it was something like, shut up, you smelly Indian.

Narinder Kaur (2:29)

Yeah.

Peter McCormack (2:29)

And I was just like, this is not cool.

Narinder Kaur (2:31)

Yeah. Yeah, there's loads, there's loads of that. So I'm aware of that. Yes.

Peter McCormack (2:35)

Do you get to a point where it just bounces off you, and you don't care?

Narinder Kaur (2:37)

Literally, just literally, and that's wrong in a way, but I can't, if I called it out all the time, I'd be there all day, I'm not going to pay for that.

And actually, you've got to, what I've learnt is, I used to think, oh my god, they're just talking to me, but if I look at, say, another panellist of white, my Caucasian sister, say Tessa Dunlop, she's also getting so much abuse. I've seen you get abuse. Yes, mine is the added racialized element, but I looked at your tweets, and you're getting called, oh shit, you know what I'm saying?

Peter McCormack (3:07)

You're fresh as dirt, yeah.

Narinder Kaur (3:07)

Yeah, or you, you know, abuse, you're getting abused, so we're all getting abused.

Peter McCormack (3:12)

I abuse some people back.

Narinder Kaur (3:13)

Yeah, I do as well.

Peter McCormack (3:16)

Your friend, Zach Polanski, I give some stickies.

Narinder Kaur (3:18)

Sometimes, you know what, I think PETE, PETE. But you know what it is? I like it, that's why I've come back on here, and you're so reasonable. Then I see your tweets, I think, why didn't he say that?
