All right, everyone, welcome back to Something Major. Roland Garros has just concluded, about an hour ago, John Isner here with Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson and the team at Civ Creative. Thank you, guys. Roland Garros crowned two new champions, both first-time Grand Slam champions.
Sam, I think it's best if we start with the match that we just saw, Alexander Zverev taking down the title. Six-one in the fifth set in a match that was filled, excuse me, with all sorts of tension, emotion, you name it, this match had it. I thought it was a great final.
The curse is broken for Zverev. He is no longer the best player to never win a slam. Stevie, were you able to tune in to this match in LA?

**Steve Johnson** (1:10)
I think I actually watched more of this match than you guys did, was getting some clips of you guys napping in the green room. So I actually watched the whole thing. I don't know about you guys. But yeah, all in all, a phenomenal match. Look, I was thinking, what are you eating there?

**John Isner** (1:25)
I'm hungry, man.

**Steve Johnson** (1:26)
No, I know. But what are you eating before I get into it?

Huh, nice. Well, sounds good. But I guess maybe it came. It was I thought it was going to be one way traffic. I mean, Sasha had everything rolling. The first set felt like Cobolli like couldn't get a ball past the service line, like was just nervous. And rightfully so. He's in a slam fine. All right. Like all the emotions. I couldn't even tell you what that feels like.
And like Sasha was rolling, rolling. And then all of a sudden, in the second set, it had like an inexplicable break of serve up 30 love. And then like, you're like, now we got a match. And it was turned out to be a phenomenal match. Lots of twists and turns, lots of ups and downs. These guys had chances to kind of run, not run away with it, but like maybe grab the momentum and, you know, take control of the match. But for two guys that, you know, it's not, it's not the final last year we saw with Carlos and Yannick, but still a memorable, super memorable final, great tennis, some great shot making, some great poised by Sasha. I mean, we can get into all of it, but I was really impressed with how calm he is over the last, I'd say like 18 to 24 months in those moments when things don't go his way, especially in that four set breaker, and just comes out in the fifth and just takes care of business.

This match, like, throw the first three sets out the window, it started like late in the fourth, I feel like. That's when like the drama started to build. That tie breaker was unbelievable, Zverev gets up the mini break, then donates it back, and then Cobolli had the first set point of his serve, and he mistimed that jump, and missed the high overhead volley, whatever you want to call it. I think at that point.

He tried to go Sampras on it.

Yeah, I think at that point, everyone was like, ah, like, Zverev has it, and then Cobolli just with the forehand down the line winner.

Wasn't seen.

That thing was unbelievable.
And like you just said, Steve, Zverev did a good job, he went and sat down, and then he regrouped and broke first game of the fifth. It was interesting, we just had Zverev, we were talking to him on the set afterwards, and we asked him about the match, and he's like, after the fourth, he's like, Cobolli took a bathroom break for five minutes, it allowed me to like reset and calm down. I think if Cobolli didn't take that bathroom break, I think Zverev still would have won, but if I'm Cobolli, I win that set, I'm on the court, I'm like, how quickly can I get back on the court?

**Steve Johnson** (3:36)
But it might, I feel like it's like that for both guys. I mean, you make a great point, but it's like, Cobolli might need to like, after a huge forehand like that, you might not need to like calm yourself down just a little to like go out and start the fifth, but it's, dude, like Sasha, man, like everything, it could have gone away from him. Like if he loses that one after the fourth, right? Like we're talking, it's a different story that we're all singing right now, different song.
