Welcome to The Family Discipleship Podcast. We're here to equip and encourage Christian parents to lead their families posting every other Monday, all year long. This is Adam Griffin, and I'm here with my incredible co-hosts, Mrs. Cassie Bryant and my wife, Chelsea Griffin. Cassie, we have a really important question for you. As the Griffins, we could actually use your therapeutic counseling help this morning. What is the right temperature to set your thermostat at in your house? And you can talk like summer, winter.

Cassie Bryant (0:38)

Depends on the day.

Adam Griffin (0:39)

Yeah, or time of day.

Cassie Bryant (0:40)

Or month, sorry.

Adam Griffin (0:41)

Yeah.

Cassie Bryant (0:42)

If we're not home, we like let it get warm in the summer. Like 80

Okay. But when we get home and once the sun starts to set, we like start to crank that down. I like to sleep at around 72

Adam Griffin (0:54)

Okay, sleep at 72 What about in the winter?

Cassie Bryant (0:58)

Winter, we let it get cold. I think the coldest we've let the house get is like 58 Whoa.

Yeah, we let the house get cold. We all love a cold house. Wow.

Adam Griffin (1:07)

You and Eric have that in common, and you guys always agree about the thermostat?

Cassie Bryant (1:10)

Yeah, and the girls just moved upstairs recently, and now they're trying to navigate, like, heat rises. So in the winter, it gets too warm for them upstairs.

Adam Griffin (1:18)

Really? Even with the heat on. Do you have an AC on? No, open a window.

Cassie Bryant (1:22)

Open a window?

Chelsea Griffin (1:24)

Cassie, 58 inside your house?

Cassie Bryant (1:26)

Yeah, it's so... Oh, you just cuddle up, you get a cup of hot tea or cocoa.

Chelsea Griffin (1:31)

Oh my god.

Adam Griffin (1:33)

Do you have any...

Our bills are great. Do you start a fire? Do you have, like, a fireplace?

Cassie Bryant (1:37)

Yes, we do have a fireplace. Yeah, Eric's a great fire maker.

Adam Griffin (1:39)

Okay.

Cassie Bryant (1:40)

Fire maker, fire starter, fire bender.

Adam Griffin (1:44)

Fire bender? He's a pyromaniac? Is that what you're saying?

Chelsea Griffin (1:47)

Okay.

Adam Griffin (1:47)

Chelsea, what is the correct answer? Can you correct Cassie, please?

Cassie Bryant (1:50)

Yeah, tell me where I'm wrong. I truly love my summer daytime, 80

Chelsea Griffin (1:54)

Sure, that's fine. I hate it when the air conditioning gets so chilled where I feel like my bones hurt, you know?

I know I get so cold. But I was intrigued by your answer of the nighttime 72 because I actually like it a little colder than that.

Cassie Bryant (2:11)

Oh.

Chelsea Griffin (2:12)

And it's uncommon for me to like anything colder than someone else.

Adam Griffin (2:15)

But honestly, you sleep with an electric blanket. Yeah, that's right. And it allows you to have a colder room temperature.

Chelsea Griffin (2:22)

Yeah, and it feels good.

Adam Griffin (2:23)

A more comfortable, let's call it husband. Yeah. And we have a ceiling fan on. Uncomfortable, she's comfortable. And it's probably set at 70 It is set 70s.

Chelsea Griffin (2:33)

70s.

Adam Griffin (2:33)

During the summer?

Cassie Bryant (2:34)

Yeah, it's probably economic for us. But also, we have a king size bed, so there's plenty of space.

Adam Griffin (2:39)

Is that right?

Cassie Bryant (2:40)

You know, we moved from the queen to the king a couple years ago, and it's been very nice for temperature.

Adam Griffin (2:44)

Humble brag. For the temperature.

Chelsea Griffin (2:46)

Yeah, Brian's are moving on up.

Adam Griffin (2:48)

Okay, we're still stuffing straw into our mattress.

Stop. Yeah, our home has a little bit more debate to it. Or not debate, like we just have different preferences.

Cassie Bryant (2:59)

Do you ever just go and knock it? Do you go knock it one degree or the other?

Adam Griffin (3:02)

We talk about it. It's not like, it's not a hidden thing. But yesterday, our house was, so I got home, and Chelsea knows this, I dress for the weather I want. She describes it. So I'll come home and I'm wearing jeans and a hoodie, and it's the middle of summer because I'm in the OC all day.

Chelsea Griffin (3:15)

It was 110, and I'm like, I didn't put that hoodie on you, but I can see why you're uncomfortable.

Adam Griffin (3:22)

When I walk in the house and it's 78 and the OC has been off for 30 minutes.

Cassie Bryant (3:26)

You need Chelsea to put out your shorts and T-shirt when you get home.
