Good Thursday morning again. Welcome to Squawk on the Street. I'm Sara Eisen with Carl Quintanilla live from Post 9 of the New York Stock Exchange. Today, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. More from our conversation, including the outlook for China chips, and what he is calling one of the great mysteries of the universe.
Carl Quintanilla (1:12)
Ben, it's the biggest IPO of all time. New details on SpaceX's business revealed in the S1. We'll talk with early SpaceX investor Peter Diamandis in just a moment.
Sara Eisen (1:21)
Plus, the US government planning to take equity stakes in several quantum computing companies, including Infleqtion. The CEO joins us later this hour with shares surging on the news.
Carl Quintanilla (1:31)
Meantime, a little bit of a defensive posture this morning. Dow is down just a touch, but only two sectors are green, utilities and health care. Industrials bearing the brunt of the damage today. We got the VIX once again, about 17 and a half, but hasn't made a whole lot of movement on yields. But clearly, these headlines about Iran and whether or not they want to keep the enriched uranium has really buffeted equities intraday.
Sara Eisen (1:56)
Yeah, and yields as well. We're going to start with Nvidia. Shares are a bit lower. The CEO, Jensen Huang, covered a lot of ground in our conversation last night after the chip giant reported earnings. Here's what he told me about how he's thinking about everything from sales of China, the company's $80 billion buyback just announced to the feasibility of data centers in space.
Jensen Huang (2:17)
Nvidia is already in space. Hopper is already in space. Vera Rubin is on its way to space.
I think the ability to deploy data centers in space is a known ability. The question is, how do we scale that up? There's a fair amount of engineering and a fair amount of science that we still have to do to scale it up.
As far as I could see right now, there are no physical limits. There's no laws of physics limitation. There are a lot of technical challenges. Some things are way easier. Some things are way harder, of course. But one of the things that's really terrific is that the amount of energy that we'll have in space is basically, practically infinite. So I think that that's a very big plus and a really great motivator and a reason to really endeavor to put data centers out in space. We have four or five partners working with us in putting satellites out in space.
Sara Eisen (3:14)
Is this like a three-year story, ten-year story? Any sense of it?
Jensen Huang (3:22)
Well, we're already there now.
And so the question is, we have to do the engineering and then we have to scale it up. I think for the next 10 years, it's a fairly fair certainty that the vast majority of the world's data centers will be here terrestrially. And so we'll just add with satellites and add with space data centers as we go. And so I don't think it's going to be all or nothing. We're going to rely on Earth for a lot of data centers, a lot of energy for some time to come.
Sara Eisen (3:56)
Okay, back to Earth. Question on China. Obviously you just got back from the trip with the president and the topic of the H200s came up again. We know between President Trump and President Xi and you have approval to sell there to certain companies, but the Chinese government, I guess, hasn't given the green light. What's your expectation around when that could happen?
