Yeah, I mean, you just had your back go out, so I'm sure it'd help with that.

Chris Graham (1:02)

Yeah, that's the thing. Yeah, my back still is not 100% yet, so I was doing a lot of yoga from the drive up the vacation.

Brian Hood (1:08)

You know what's interesting is like, you know, I went to E3, which is a gaming convention about a month or so ago, and the big thing these days is like twitch.com, streaming, all that stuff, and a lot of the streamers support these really expensive gaming chair companies.

And so I got to sit in some of these really expensive gaming chairs that you see at these conventions. And I know they have the equivalent in a recording as well, but for some reason, it just didn't click in my head that like, hey, if you're gonna spend like eight to 10 hours a day in the same damn chair, why are you gonna sit in a $100 Walmart chair? I'm gonna be the first to admit, I still have, in my control room, the same chair I bought in 2009 from Walmart for $100.

I still have, it's like peeling apart, crusty as fuck, it's awful, but I still sit in it. And I can't believe that I am too cheap to buy a new chair, even though it's so damn important. What kind of chair do you sit in? Because you're the one with back problems.

Chris Graham (2:04)

My chair isn't terrible. I don't even know what kind it is, but I think it was like 200 bucks or something.

Brian Hood (2:10)

I feel like as much as we sit in our chairs, Chris, this should be something, I'm calling us out on this right now.

We should be valuing our lower back health by getting chairs that aren't $200, that aren't $100. We should be spending a minimum of $1,000 on our chairs. What do you think?

Chris Graham (2:25)

I have thought about buying one of those, what is it, Aeon or?

Brian Hood (2:29)

Like I said, there's like gaming ones, and then there's like recording ones. Every niche has a high-end chair. They all do the same damn thing, basically. Just one looks stupider than the other.

Chris Graham (2:37)

For me, the most important thing is having a chair that doesn't smell like fart. So I like to have a mesh chair that the farts can cleanly pass through.

Brian Hood (2:46)

Yeah, because what was your Fortnite username?

Chris Graham (2:49)

Stinkfarts.

Brian Hood (2:50)

Oh my God.

Chris Graham (2:51)

Yeah. Anyways, I'm on PUBG a lot too, guys. Chris Grahams.

No spaces. Chris Grahams.

Brian Hood (2:59)

We're falling apart as a podcast. Well, all that to say, we're sponsored by Razer Gaming Chairs. So you can...

We are?

Chris Graham (3:07)

That's great.

Brian Hood (3:07)

No, God, no, that's so stupid. Okay, so that's not anything about today's episode that just popped in my head, and now I'm gonna go spend $1,000 on a chair. I'm gonna make you spend $1,000 on a chair too, Chris.

Chris Graham (3:16)

I'm open to it.

Brian Hood (3:17)

I'm gonna send you some links.

Chris Graham (3:18)

I'm down with that. I am very seriously considering converting the mastering studio to a standing mastering studio.

Brian Hood (3:26)

Well, I would never do that unless it was a switchable where I could do standing or a seat.

Chris Graham (3:31)

That's the plan. That's the plan.

Brian Hood (3:32)

So for your sitting situation, you still need a $1,000 chair. We're gonna find, together, we're gonna find a $1,000 chair, and we're gonna announce on the podcast which chair we chose.

Chris Graham (3:41)

Sounds good to me.

Brian Hood (3:42)

I'm committing us to this right now.

Chris Graham (3:43)

Will you buy it for me?

Brian Hood (3:44)

No, no, no, no. This is out of your money.

Chris Graham (3:46)

Okay, sounds good.

Brian Hood (3:47)

It's a tax write-off though.

Chris Graham (3:48)

That's true.

Brian Hood (3:49)

Anyways, so today's episode is not about sitting or back health. Chris, what is today's episode about?

Chris Graham (3:54)

Well, on vacation, I was thinking a lot about this phrase that I love. The phrase is single points of failure. And a single point of failure is anything where there's a bottleneck in your process or whatever you're doing. You know, if you are rock climbing up a mountain, your rope is a single point of failure. If the rope breaks, you're screwed.

And, you know, for us in the audio world, we're very familiar with this single point of failure idea. Any audio engineer worth his salt has heard the phrase, you are only as strong as the weakest point in your signal chain.
