Hello, Smart Money Tree Podcast listeners. Welcome to this week's show. My name is Kirk Chisholm. I'll be your host. And today I'm joined with Doug Heagren. Hey, Doug.
Douglas Heagren (0:17)
Good day.
Kirk Chisholm (0:18)
Good day, y'all.
Douglas Heagren (0:19)
Good day, y'all.
Kirk, I'm really excited because I'm going to start this off. I'm having a great bonding opportunity with my son this weekend. As we wrap up, I'll be hitting the road in the next couple of hours. I'm picking up my son, and it is Wisconsin Youth Deer Weekend.
Kirk Chisholm (0:39)
Nice.
Douglas Heagren (0:40)
Yes.
Kirk Chisholm (0:41)
Good on you, man. I was hoping to get into hunting with my son this year, and I don't know, just didn't happen. So next year.
Douglas Heagren (0:48)
It's great because I'm legally not allowed to do it, to take the animal. I'm obviously there as a mentor if we need be, to finish and hear the process and all that.
It's about time. It's time with my son. No electronics, out in the wilderness, nature. My daughter was like, yes, I can't wait to do this. My son was more hesitant about it, and he's like, I'm going to be so bored. I'm like boredom is good for you.
Time to disconnect, time to spend a little time together. You get a little bored in there, you can do a crossword or read your book. But here's the thing, we're going to get back, we're going to hug some trees. Awesome time to get a chance, whatever it is. It doesn't have to be this, but if you get a chance to build those moments with your children, they will reward you forever.
Kirk Chisholm (1:30)
Maybe we could have AI help you with that, Doug, because AI is going to take that job in the future, right?
Douglas Heagren (1:34)
According to Jeff Bezos, in his recent interview, good segue, he said that in just a handful of years, and I think this is a great conversation for us because I just can't help but laugh, AI is going to make it to everybody can work a 20 to 30 hour week and have enough income to be able to have only one person working and have a better lifestyle than they have today.
I'm trying to put into the back of my head before, as I take this back to you, Kirk, it's great for a billionaire who already has all that freedom to do what he wants and his own stresses he's created with his life, to sit there and say, if I can make working so simple, that we can have the lowest common denominator employee do it, that that's somehow going to create a premium on wages to allow people to be able to afford on one income to have all this time and income against an inflating economy. He must be betting on massive deflation along the way.
I can probably take this back to another reality, which was the industrial age. We had a moment where we had everybody working in factories until we had automation come along to where, guess what? We don't need highly skilled people to push a button. That didn't make wages go up, Kirk. I'm pretty sure that the opposite happened, as well as the jobs. Yeah, this will be fun. Let's talk.
The billionaires have us all figured out, life's going to be easier because of them.
Kirk Chisholm (3:05)
Well, it's a good segue and you raise some great points which you can touch on here. So the name of this episode is Zero Jobs Will Be Lost to AI.
As we talked about in the last few weeks, I've done a lot of soul searching for the last 12 months on AI, and I finally feel comfortable with where I think things are going. I know everyone likes to just put out, oh, we think it's going to go this, and the next week, oh, it's the other direction. I don't do that. As you guys know, on the listeners of the show, when I say something is because it's well-formulated, and it tends to be more right than wrong, because I've just spent time thinking about it. I know it's hard in this day and age to think, because we're all following the hot dot and the shiny object around, and we're all overwhelmed. But the reality is, if you spend time sitting and thinking, life makes a lot more sense. So like what Doug said, Bezos said, well, only one person's going to work, and it'll be great, 30-hour work week. You know when the last time I heard that was? In the late 90s, when they said, the internet's going to come, and it's going to be great, and we're not going to have to work very hard, and it's all going to be done for us. You know what I mean?
