Yu-Gi-Oh Has a Plan to Get New Players, But...

The Pod of Greed

October 1, 2026

Yu-Gi-Oh Europe is finally introducing a solid plan for getting new players into the game, but will it work? And Genesys has given us a look at the current format. Also Konami messed up on translating a Yu-Gi-Oh card... let's chat!

Which do you think is worse, that or the ads in your video games?

Alec Fields (0:04)

I swear to God, if I'm trying to watch Game of Thrones reruns or something, and I feel like, say, State Farm is on... Liberty, liberty, liberty. I would rather have the ads in my games at that point.

Don't make me complicit in the marketing. Welcome back to The Pod of Greed.

Paul McGee (0:24)

Welcome back indeed, guys. Hope you're having a good Thursday.

Alec Fields (0:29)

I resisted derailing this intro.

Paul McGee (0:31)

Okay. Well, we appreciate that you didn't.

Yeah, it's been a fun week. It finally feels like we're going to have our first, like, deload week.

Alec Fields (0:41)

A chill week.

Paul McGee (0:42)

Where, like, it isn't crazy, freaking out, ban list.

Alec Fields (0:46)

Yeah, we're not, you know, no rants.

Paul McGee (0:48)

New Yu-Gi-Oh game, Yu-Gi-Oh's dying, whatever. It's just kind of like...

Alec Fields (0:51)

You know, we relax, man. Just kick back, you know, kick your shoes off. Unless you're at work, keep your shoes on.

Paul McGee (0:58)

Yeah, so we're going to get to have a normal week, I think. There is some Yu-Gi-Oh news, a few developments here and there, but nothing crazy. So hopefully no crash outs, no promises, but...

Alec Fields (1:09)

I don't trust you, Paul.

Paul McGee (1:11)

Okay, so let's start with a small little update that I saw from the Yu-Gi-Oh blog.

Alec Fields (1:17)

Yu-Gi-Oh blog.

Paul McGee (1:19)

Chaos Origins Theo Realize Past Lull Replacement. So there was actually an error printed on a card that came out in Chaos Origin.

It's with an S. I don't know why it's called Chaos Origin.

Alec Fields (1:31)

It's Origin. No S.

Paul McGee (1:33)

But either way, it had a misprint sort of a typo on it. During production of the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game, Chaos Origins, released on July 3rd, it was identified that an error occurred during the translation of the card, Theo Realize Past Lull.

English, Spanish, and Portuguese versions of the card feature incorrect card text. So the current text reads, if you control an Artmage Doom Z, Dooms, or Elf Note Monster. But the card should read, if you control an Artmage Dooms or Elf Note Card. What?

Alec Fields (2:01)

Theo Realize Past Lull got a buff?

Paul McGee (2:05)

Yeah, which I guess this is how it actually just worked in Japan.

Alec Fields (2:08)

Or maybe that means we nerfed it from the OCG.

Paul McGee (2:10)

Yeah, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and are offering Duelist the opportunity to replace their affected cards. During the replacement process, Duelist can exchange one affected card for two correct versions of the same rarity.

That's pretty cool.

Alec Fields (2:25)

That's good value. Trade one for two.

Paul McGee (2:27)

Yeah, and so Duelist may submit replacement requests immediately through the following channels. Either in person at a Tier 3 event, which is to say like a YCS.

This will end at North America's World Championship Qualifier 2027

Alec Fields (2:42)

So, yeah, basically the entire year until the next.

Paul McGee (2:45)

Yeah, you can show up to a YCS, give them a misprinted one, and they will give you two correctly printed ones. Or you can do it via Konami customer service, where you can contact this email address and include the Orealized past lull replacement requests in the subject line. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we apologize again for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

So, this is like a pretty small story. Any thoughts?

Alec Fields (3:15)

Oh, I mean, it's small, but also kind of big. I mean, this doesn't happen like very often.

Paul McGee (3:22)

It does not.

Alec Fields (3:23)

There's many like printing errors we've seen in Yu-Gi-Oh. It's only when there's like a translation issue that makes a card differentiate between OCG and TCG, do we really get these?

Paul McGee (3:34)

Yeah, this isn't like a huge thing. It's just kind of like a small typo. I do think that there is some irony, though, in the fact that we get such clear communication around this and kind of a let's make it better.

Alec Fields (3:48)

Right.

Paul McGee (3:48)

But ban lists get none.

Alec Fields (3:50)

Well, I mean, this Apple's orange is.

Paul McGee (3:52)

Yeah, you would think, except like the ban list is what people care about. I was reading comments on this and people were like, you know, wow, you guys can replace these cards, but you can't give us a ban list. So I thought it was kind of amusing. But then I remembered, that's not even really true because it's like basically October now and the set came out on like July. So I guess they weren't really even being punctual.
