Welcome to The Niche Is You. My name is Matt Gottesman, at Matt Gottesman on Instagram, and this is my daily podcast where I create short, quick hitting episodes to help you uncomplicate life, creativity, and the pursuit of your highest self. There's only main character energy here. Now let's get into it.

Welcome to episode 878 This is a relaunch of a previous episode titled Your Art Isn't Just What You Make, It's What You Free In Others. Now, what I've decided to do, and I was talking about this with my producer. We were talking about how we're up to 877 episodes prior to this one, right? And he's like, you have a catalog, and then you have even more of a catalog. And I was like, yeah, I do. And he goes, and you have more listeners than you've had throughout the entire history. And I said, yes. And he said, I think you should choose some ones from your past that you really liked and appreciated yourself and the work and share some of those. And so here we are. So I'm going to do a series over this next week of revisiting some older episodes that are at least like half the catalog back and prior to this. Just to share one, it's actually pretty nostalgic for me. And also two, it's possible that maybe you hadn't heard this one, or maybe it's a good message to hear again. So again, this episode is going to be on your art isn't just what you make, it's what you free in others.

Welcome to episode 515 What you're obsessed with isn't random. What you're obsessed with isn't random. Now I am talking about a healthy obsession from your natural curiosities, from the things that you just can't stop thinking about. They're just always on your mind. And they feel like natural curiosities, you know what I mean? Like, and they could seem even so quote unquote not normal, because you're like, well, you know, I don't know why I'm so fixated on, you know, how the metal, you know, fits together, you know, when I'm building the cars or I don't know why, you know, the gardening just seems to make so much sense to me. And it's just so easy.

These are signals, you know. And I was thinking about this because I created a post online that did very well, and I can understand why. And the longer post said, what you're obsessed with isn't random. The stuff you study, build, write, and think about, even when no one's watching. That's the stuff that I'm talking about, by the way. It's like the stuff you study, build, write, and think about, even when no one's watching. This is a natural state of things for you. And I get the pressures of feeling like, well, is it responsible of me to go do that thing more? Is it responsible of me to think that I can make a living from that? Is it responsible for me to wanna stay so close to it and keep thinking about it, even though it's like I've been told that it's a distraction or that I should be doing something else? I get it.

We've been living over the last maybe 80-some years, probably more, but where it was like, listen, these are the paths, and if you don't take them, it's possible you look like you have your head in the clouds.

And I've said this many times on the podcast because I definitely wanna make it aware that I understand that you just had quote unquote adults when we were kids just try to give us direction because they were hoping that we would be okay in this world, and we would make money, and we would be safe, and we'd be doing all those things. It's just that as I got further in my faith, and just, well, okay, no, let me back up. I was raised by two parents who always had me question the system, be like, what is it you want? So they raised me very independently thinking, like, don't just follow the herd. Don't just follow the crowd. It was like, what do you want? What do you need? Who are you? Because that's a lifetime of, it's a lifetime of getting to know yourself, right?

So, I was raised very independently thinking, but I genuinely think that that's what happened in society was sort of like, instead of approaching from the soul, from the spirit, it was much more about, hey, this is what I know has proven itself. And it's like, yeah, but you're basically telling someone's soul exactly what their path is.

And so, as I got further in my faith, I realized like, wow, like, can you imagine, you know, how much interference we do with others when we do that? That's why I've said this countless times, some of the best advice I've ever gotten comes from people who don't answer my questions directly. They make me think deeper.
