This is simply one of the most fascinating, entertaining, and provocative movies of the year. We will talk about all of it on the show. Later in this episode, I will be joined by Judd Apatow, legendary comedy filmmaker, showrunner, producer, and documentarian. Judd has not one, but two new docs on Netflix this month. The first, which is now available to watch, is Norm, An Intimate Portrait of the Late Norm MacDonald, one of my favorite comedy voices of my lifetime. The second arrives next week. It's called Paralyzed by Hope, The Maria Bamford Story, which charts the complex and fascinating life of another brilliant comedy mind. Judd has never been on The Big Picture before, so he had a great time talking about his doc work, his history as a comedy filmmaker, his next big movie with Glenn Powell, and a lot more. Well, in Grand Big Picture tradition, I watched it approximately two minutes ago. But in this case, in my defense, it was not because I was doing other things, living my life, pursuing hobbies, but because I did see the trailer on my phone, actually via your Instagram story, started to watch it, then realized that a horizontal trailer on the vertical setting of my phone was not the ideal way to watch anything, and I stopped, and I waited until I could then watch it full screen on my laptop, which is, I'm sure, how the inventors of cinema and Greta Gerwig intended it.
