You're watching TBPN.

Today is Monday, October 19th, 2026

We are live from the TBPN Ultradome, the Temple of Technology, the Fortress of Finance, and Nugget, the capital of the capital. Do we still got a little color grade going on, boys? What's going on with the- I think so. With the bold tans today, yeah? Okay, you left the color grade. Well, we're slowly getting out of Nathan Fielder territory. We're not zoomed in, but we still got the color grade, we still got the Nathan Fielder headphones, which are actually amazing, deeply underrated. He's a wired headphone guy. You've been talking about this for a long time.

Jordi Hays (0:36)

I didn't think those were great.

John Coogan (0:38)

Oh, you didn't like them? I love them. I think that they sound way better.

Jordi Hays (0:41)

The quality is horrible.

John Coogan (0:42)

Oh, really? No, no, no, I think it's nice. It's nice. I don't know, just the way I can still hear a little bit of this, it's not so isolating.

It feels like I'm more present. I don't know. Anyway, let me tell you about ramp.com. Time is money, save both, easy use corporate cards, bill pay accounting and a whole lot more, including Tony Hawk, including Bam Margera. They put on an incredible event at the New York Stock Exchange on Friday, on Saturday night. Tony Hawk was there skating around the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, outside of the New York Stock Exchange. Bam Margera was there, a huge event.

Jordi Hays (1:12)

He was also just skating around New York yesterday, as showed up on A Buddy of Mine story.

John Coogan (1:18)

It's awesome. Yeah, great, great sponsorship, great out of the box, outside of the box thinking from the ramp team on a really interesting brand partner who, yeah, just a lot of contrast there. So great, great outcome.

So congrats to them. Let me, we're still in Nathan Fielder territory. We have Katie Drummond from WIRE, the Global Editorial Director, hopping on to talk about her interview with Nathan Fielder, which dropped today. Then we have a bunch of other folks joining the show. But Theranos was all over the timeline.

Jordi Hays (1:52)

He broke his silence with Katie.

John Coogan (1:55)

That's true. That's true. That is actually what happened. Yeah, I did.

But yeah, this weekend, every time I would refresh, it would be You Can See Everything takes. Everyone had all these different opinions and takes. The one that stuck out to me was that there's a little bit of a, you watch the movie and most people came away thinking more positively of Elizabeth Holmes being like, oh, maybe she wasn't, maybe she's not that bad. Maybe there's more to the story. Maybe she was manipulated. She seems to be manipulated multiple times potentially. Like maybe she's more of a-

Jordi Hays (2:30)

Some people might be like, she's bad, but she'd probably be nice to me if I interacted with her.

John Coogan (2:37)

Yeah, a little bit of that.

And yeah, and there's this, I don't know, there's some sort of suspicion that I feel some people in Silicon Valley are having where it's like, oh, it's just like the fake it till you make it thing. It's not that big of a deal. And I just can't stop thinking about it. It seems like she's just a bad founder. Like put aside the fraud, it just seems like total slop in terms of the execution of that business and gives me absolutely no faith in a Theranos 2.0.

Jordi Hays (3:07)

Totally.

John Coogan (3:07)

And the whole time, I was almost yelling at the movie screen because the way she describes Theranos is like this box and like it's in the cloud. It's just like, it's so unaware of the medical device industry, which is so frustrating to me because she's making this point where it's like we have an invention and our invention allows you to test blood for things and like we test all this stuff. And she's making it sound like it's like magical science and it's like, I looked it up. There have been 60 plus companies since Theranos started that sold for over $100 million in that category.

It's like someone coming to you and being like, I have a magical, we invented something. It takes information and it stores it on a database that you can access through a website. It's like, so you make a SaaS product. Literally hundreds of people make those. And there are thousands of people that work in the medical device industry and they've made boxes that look kind of like a Theranos box and it runs a test and they don't go to prison for 10 years. Yeah, they don't go to prison.
