Hello everybody, welcome to Yesterday's News. Happy Tuesday. This is where I cover yesterday's news. In about 15 to 20 minutes, the goal is to help you stay informed and a little less overwhelmed, because their goal is to flood the system and get us sober and out. We can't care. We're going to keep caring and I can help you weed through some of that. Spend a little less time on social media, get a little bit more of your life back. I am currently in the process of building my studio. So if you're watching this on video, you can see I've got new chairs. There's a little kitty back there. We're building a very New Orleans-type theme set on this side. Then on the other side of the room, you can see the chartreuse couch, but you can see on the red side what you can't see is going to be for Highway to Hell, very gothic. Had a couple of messages about the podcast that I do. This news broadcast will show up on Flipping Tables, my deconstruction and historical podcast, Highway to Hell is my true crime and travel podcast. Let's jump in on this day. September 29th, 1982, the Tylenol Murders began in Chicago. On the morning of September 29th, 1982, a 12-year-old girl in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, took an extra strength Tylenol capsule for a cold and collapsed. By October 1st, seven people in Chicago's suburbs, age 12 to 35, were dead. Someone had pulled bottles from the store shelves, loaded the capsules with potassium cyanide and put them back. The killer was never identified. The case remains open. What followed changed how every American buys medicine. Johnson & Johnson pulled 31 million bottles nationwide in days, at a time when a national recall was considered an omission of guilt. Within months, they issued the first federal regulations requiring tamper-evident packaging on over-the-counter drugs. In 1983, Congress passed what was called the Tylenol Bill, making it a federal crime to tamper with a consumer product. The foil seal under every cap, the plastic band around every bottleneck, and the caplet that replaced the capsule, all of it dates to this week, 44 years ago. Andrew Bailey, the former Missouri Attorney General who became the FBI's co-deputy director in August of 2025, announced Monday he is resigning, effective October 2nd, to return to his family in Missouri. The co-deputy structure was the first in the Bureau's history. Bailey shared the title first with Dan Bongino, the podcaster who left earlier this year, and then with career agent Christopher Raya. Director Cash Patel thanked him for critical reforms, which resulted in our historic success. I feel like we're using historic success like a little, maybe a little loosely there. CBS and CNN report the relationship was strained from the start. Bailey was initially left off meeting invitations, and according to people familiar with the arrangement, was kept at a distance because he was repeatedly flagged proposed actions as unconstitutional. He was saying, hey, these laws and what we're doing here are not following the Constitution, so he was removed from meetings. He was once widely viewed as Patel's likely successor. The official reason for his departure is family. The people who worked with him describe a lawyer who kept saying no in a building where that was not the job, the job was to be a yes man. Patel said last week that federal officers may have a presence at polling places in November. Bailey's last day is 32 days before that election. So three days after the ICE officers told the Daily Wire they had been ordered to stop arresting people without criminal records and two days after DHS denied any such order existed, the department announced on Saturday that a nationwide public safety surge is going to be targeting sanctuary jurisdictions. The list covers California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia. Every one of them voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 That entire list voted for Kamala. And now there's going to be a surge of ICE agents in their sanctuary cities right ahead of the elections and I would guess leading all the way into the midterms. DHS said officers will continue to arrest any and all illegal aliens that come into our path and that no one is off the table. And as a reminder, they will also arrest people who are here legally who have work permits. In fact, they'll shoot them in traffic stops and also arrest US citizens. The stated target is, quote, criminal illegal aliens released from jails by sanctuary politicians, end quote. The administration's own arrest data through this year shows the majority of people taken into custody have no criminal conviction or only minor offenses. So the sequence of the past four days is a reported directive to focus on criminals, the denial, then the announcement that the focus will be everyone in 11 democratic states starting five weeks before midterms.
