Yankees Are WASTING George Lombard Jr! “Pick a Spot and Leave Him Alone!”

The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

August 13, 2026

The Yankees' offense is struggling again, and Chris McMonigle and Craig Carton have had enough. The guys debate Jazz Chisholm's disastrous season at the plate, why expectations are so much higher for Jazz, and whether Ben Rice has also fallen off after carrying the Yankees earlier this season.

We'll get back to the Yankee loss today, 888-808-1019.
Lost opportunity to maintain the lead they had started to build against the Red Sox. Red Sox with a big win today, so obviously it's going to be nip and tuck the rest of the way. But obviously a frustrating day. If you're at Yankee Stadium, a gorgeous day to be at the stadium today. That was great. Weather was great. Got a great pitching performance today.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:25)
Everything was great.

**Craig Carton** (0:26)
And I have one issue now with the Yankees are messing around with George Lombard. One issue on that. I'll give you that after you take a couple of calls.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:34)
I have an interesting discussion on George Lombard too.

**Craig Carton** (0:36)
Great.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:37)
I think we're thinking the same thing.

**Craig Carton** (0:38)
I'm not sure that we are.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:39)
No.

**Craig Carton** (0:40)
But let's take a couple of calls.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:42)
Okay.

**Craig Carton** (0:42)
And remind me, it's a very quick, it's not like a big, big deal.
But they're messing around right now. I think they got to stop. And I'll give it to you in a couple of seconds. Okay. Here's Wayne on the fan with The Carton Show, Big Mac Wayne. Good afternoon. How are you, sir?

**Wayne** (0:57)
Hey, good afternoon. It's wonderful hearing you always listen to you guys. Very entertaining. Very good. Thank you. Nice to have a nice balance between each other. Nice. Anyway, I'm just annoyed that your coworker is blaming chosen for the negative play.
Today, we have Gresham, all for all for what? Gresham is one of two guys they got to hit today.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:29)
Gresham is one of two guys they got to hit. He got to double down the line and move the one of only three guys.
Only one of two runners at third base. He's the one who put him in with the double down line.

**Wayne** (1:39)
Yeah, Rice over three.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:42)
Gresham's been better lately, though. Gresham won the game last time. And you know what? I get it. Gresham's making $22 million. He's the leadoff hitter. Even though he's hot, I still don't think he should be the leadoff hitter. I agree. That's fine.
You want to blame Ben Rice?
Ben Rice has 32 home runs. 33, was it? 31, 32, 33 home runs. He's got an OPS almost 900
You want to look at today and say for 3? I didn't say today's loss is on Jazz Chisholm. I'm saying this offensive stretch where they can't consistently score runs. Jazz is supposed to be the guy who wants $37 million a year in a free agency next year. Jazz is the guy who told us he was 50-50. Jazz is one of the best offensive second baseman in the sport. And Jazz has been an excellent player for the New York Yankees for a year and a half leading into this season. And he's killing them now.
I have high expectations for Jazz Chisholm. That's the point. Jazz was relied upon and was supposed to be one of the guys who helps this team. And he's out there flailing at every single change up and breaking ball in the dirt. All right, I'm not saying today is specifically on him. We could put the blame around, but I expect more from Jazz than what he's giving. And that's the same thing with Bellinger. Bellinger was an all-star. Bellinger is the all-star game MVP.
And I still blamed him during the stretch. Why? Because he's $36 million man. He's their entire off season. He's supposed to be the all-star guy in the middle of the lineup who picks it up when Judge goes down and he didn't. And now Jazz is supposed to be one of the better hitters on this team and he's killing them. Not today in specific, but throughout this season.

**Wayne** (3:21)
Today too though. It's awful.

**Craig Carton** (3:22)
Three strikeouts today, left a couple of guys on base. And he's batting 216 this year.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:27)
It's unacceptable.

**Craig Carton** (3:29)
He'll be the first to tell you he stinks. He also needs to be sat down. I know they pinch hit from a couple of days ago late.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:34)
He's borderline platoon player right now.

**Craig Carton** (3:36)
I agree 100%. And I love watching Jazz Chisholm play. Jazz Chisholm is a major problem in this lineup.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:42)
No doubt.

**Craig Carton** (3:43)
And I think he'll be the first to tell you that.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:45)
He's already said he sucks.

**Craig Carton** (3:46)
It's one thing to struggle with a certain type of pitch. Everybody does, I suppose. He's flailing at strikes down the center of the plate. On fastballs.
