Now, here's Chris McMonigle.
And go get'em we shall. What's going on? Welcome to the Go Get'em Podcast, everybody. McMonigle here with you on this Sunday evening. It looks, even with the light, I look dark tonight. I don't know what's going on. But if you're watching on YouTube, for some reason, I'm sorry, it looks darker than usual. I even have the ring light on.
But the Yankees dropped the final game of the series against Atlanta, but they take two of three. And look, I know they're in a position right now with the Rays never losing, and they are now five and a half back of the Rays. I think it's six in the lost columns. They swept Seattle. Seattle's even worse at scoring runs than the Yankees are, if you can imagine that. I think they are. So, they're in this stretch where you have to win every game, and whenever you get a pitch game like you got from Schlittler today, in fact, me and Ryan were just joking, just for the podcast, right now, I could just say, Yankees hitting sucks, Yankees pitching's great, we'll catch you next week. I mean, that's really what's going on here. It's obvious to anyone who watches, the Yankees are pitching incredibly well, and they cannot score runs. And yet, again, tonight, maybe I'm different than most Yankee fans. I don't know how you guys feel. I know the reaction I get on social media. But for those of you watching, listening, consuming this in any way, tomorrow morning or Monday, should I say Monday morning, whenever you're listening to it. Like, as frustrating as today was, I have a tough time being down in the dumps miserable after taking two out of three from the Braves over the weekend. Like, the team is beat up, not to make an excuse.
Not good enough, obviously, this offense is just horrible. But the way I look at it, the overarching view of it right now, is you're waiting for the guys to come back. You're waiting for Bellinger, you're waiting for Stanton, you're obviously waiting for Judge. Now, if those things don't happen or they come back and are awful, then of course, but just like as we sit here today, we're waiting for those guys to come back and you hope the pitching continues and you can find ways to score some runs because believe it or not, they're still winning. We talked about this on the last podcast a lot. I know they lost the series to St. Louis, it was ugly. You don't want to lose a series to a team that had lost six series in a row, but besides that, they're winning. The Atlanta Braves came in winning eight games in a row. They would win eight games in a row and they came into Yankee Stadium, dropped the first two and the Yankees win a series against a damn good team and completely shut down a good offense from the Atlanta Braves.
Yeah, I know the Rays never lose and if the Rays never lose, you're not going to catch them anyway. But right now, it's hard to be upset as much as they should have won today and had a chance to win today and Cam Schlittler gave them every opportunity to get a sweep today and it's not good enough to not win the game. I still come away from it saying it's a series win against the Atlanta Braves so overall, it's a good weekend. What's up guys? I feel bad for Schlittler too. I feel bad and thank you Jacob. I feel bad for all the starting pitchers even though the two of them won like and more than that and here's to the point of it all especially for the rest of the season, not even so much the playoffs if and when they get there.
This not scoring and having great pitching is killing the bullpen, killing the bullpen.
You can't be in these games every single day, every single game because as much and I said they needed to go get a reliever at the trade deadline. They needed to get a reliever at the trade deadline. They didn't. I still think the bullpen's good and in a in a playoff series, I do think like you never know, obviously, someone could blow a game, whatever. But like, I think the bullpen's good enough in a postseason series, like I had they have Bednar. The one thing about the bullpen is I would say Cruz, I don't like Cruz getting an inning and I don't like Cruz coming back out for another inning. Cruz comes in to get a strikeout or two in a jam and then he's gone. I don't like him starting an inning and I don't like him coming back after doing the job. But right now at the state of the bullpen, Boone has no choice in a playoff series. Hopefully he will have a choice. And Blackburn has been really good. He gave up a single today. It's going to happen. He gave up a single in extra innings.
