Data Over Dogma
February 16, 2026
This week, it's a double-feature! Two totally different topics, both coming from the same chapter in Acts. So open your Bibles to Acts chapter 7, and let's dive in. First, we're looking at a fascinating little twist of linguistics that gives us insight into who the author of acts was.

Well, Dan, you and I do quite a bit of traveling. I just got back from a trip. I'm about to head out on another one. And one of the things that I always think about when I'm out on a trip is the fact that I don't get to be in my own bed. I've been staying in some pretty swanky hotels of late, and even at that, I still really look forward to coming home to my Brooklyn bedding, Sedona Elite, super, super nice mattress.
Dan McClellan (0:28)
Yeah, Brooklyn Bedding hand crafts all of their mattresses in their Arizona factory. If you didn't know, that's where Sedona is. I have been to Sedona many times. It's a wonderful, wonderful, gorgeous area. But Brooklyn Bedding has no middlemen, no gimmicks, just top-tier quality, honest pricing, real American craftsmanship for a better night's sleep. I have the plank firm Lux, the Cal King, as you are getting tired of me saying. And it is as firm as we could get it. We also have the Glaciotex covers, which help keep us cool because I run hot and I can get pretty sweaty at night. But the Glaciotex covers keep me cool. That's why they offer mattresses for everybody, every sleep style, even in hard to find sizes. So if you're not sure which mattress is right for you, Brooklyn Bedding has a sleep quiz you can take and find your perfect match in under two minutes.

Dan Beecher (2:18)
Venus, aka Morning Star, aka somebody in Isaiah, aka Lucifer, aka what are we talking about? That one got me really messed up.
Dan McClellan (2:37)
Hey, everybody, I'm Dan McClellan.
Dan Beecher (2:38)
And I'm Dan Beecher.
Dan McClellan (2:40)
And this is Data Over Dogma, where we increase public access to the academic study of the Bible and religion, and we combat the spread of misinformation about the same. How are things, Dan?
Dan Beecher (2:51)
Things are glorious. It's a beautiful day outside. I'm no longer in Canada, where it was extremely cold, eastern Canada at that.
Dan McClellan (3:00)
Oh, wow, yeah. It is rough on the other side of the continent.
Dan Beecher (3:05)
Yeah, for us right now, for you paying attention at home, this was a couple weeks ago or three weeks ago or something, and you'll recall that some major weather hit the eastern part of North America, and it was awful. I mean, it was most awful for, you know, the south of the United States, where...
Dan McClellan (3:26)
Folks not used to it.
Dan Beecher (3:27)
They're not used to it at all.
Dan McClellan (3:29)
Canadians are used to it.
Dan Beecher (3:31)
Canadians are going for walks and skating on the canal and whatnot, but...
Dan McClellan (3:35)
Reminds me of... I went to elementary school just outside of DC., and we had three or four snow days every single winter. Half inch of snow, inch of snow, school's canceled.
And it snowed several times every single winter. I moved to Colorado four years of high school, one snow day, and that was because some wet snow got too heavy and down some power lines.
SPEAKER_5 (4:00)
Right.
Dan McClellan (4:01)
And yeah, because as soon as the first snowflake hits the ground, the snow plows are like...
Dan Beecher (4:09)
And also, everybody just shrugs off. There's a foot of snow.
SPEAKER_5 (4:13)
Okay.
Dan Beecher (4:14)
I'll just go. It's fine. We used to have snow here in Salt Lake. That used to be a thing.
SPEAKER_6 (4:22)
I don't know.
Dan Beecher (4:23)
I guess we don't anymore.
Dan McClellan (4:25)
Yeah, well, I still have some in my yard, but it's just the crusty leftover stuff.
Dan Beecher (4:32)
Sloppy seconds.
Dan McClellan (4:33)
Oh, gosh.
Dan Beecher (4:34)
All right. Let's move on from that quickly. We've talked about what we're going to be discussing on today's show.
