So, if Warren Buffett, if he was born in Australia, would he have had the success that he's had as an investor?
**Owen Rask** (1:32)
All the things that Warren Buffett did in his life, he started with pinball machines, he did the paper rounds. He did really well from the pinball machines. He bought a textile factory. That was a bag of turds so that he realized he could turn the textile factory, which is where the Berkshire Hathaway name comes from, into an investment business that then bought an insurance business that ends the float. Then he bought whole private businesses like Seas Candy. Then he rolled into public equities, where he was buying major chunks of Apple, Goldman Sachs, AmEx. I need to breathe.
This week on the Australian Investors Podcast, HSBC is going to experiment with HSP as a product offering because no one knows what they actually do. We're also going to talk about the top five sectors for investors because where can we fish where the fish are? That's what we want to find out on this episode of the Australian Investors Podcast. We've got questions about if you've got $300 billion to invest, what do you do with it? We'll talk about that following the episode with Brian Parker from Art, who came on the show recently. We're going to name some companies. We've got some news as well from Netflix and a few other things right here on the Australian Investors Podcast. Hey there, here's a quick note. This podcast contains general financial advice only. That means it's not specific to you, your needs, goals or objectives. So don't act on the information until you've spoken with your financial advisor. You'll find our full disclosure, disclaimer and link to our financial services guide in the show notes.
Drew Meredith, how are you doing?
**Drew Meredith** (2:52)
Yeah, very, very, very well. I'm a bit interested that you're taking on China now.
Isn't Hong Kong Shanghai Bank of China?
**Owen Rask** (2:59)
Is that what it is?
**Drew Meredith** (3:00)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
**Owen Rask** (3:01)
Well, we do have a question that was sent in because you didn't know this, but Gemma and I questioned on the Finance Podcast, what does HSBC even do? You go to an airport, like literally an airport in the world. Yeah, they're just everywhere.
**Drew Meredith** (3:16)
Rugby Sevens, I think they sponsor the Rugby Sevens or something.
**Owen Rask** (3:18)
And then it's like, I don't know. But the Lions, ING.
**Drew Meredith** (3:25)
Oh, whoops.
**Owen Rask** (3:26)
Close. See, that's what I mean. But Rodney, shout out to Rodney, who wrote in and said that there's actually a cash back offer if you spend or something, you can actually get some money back for the fees or whatever. People have written in. So there's a question sent in today, Drew from HSBC user. Wanted to reach out and say that I'm a HSBC customer. Started out with a home loan, then transaction account, now credit card. Geez, in reverse order. Also have a question. What's the difference between an active ETF and a managed fund? Well, that's a bloody good question.
So obviously, just before we get to that answer, we don't need these goals or objectives. So please be sure to speak to a financial advisor before you act on any information in a RAS podcast. If you do send your question in, we do like a funny name or a bit of an anecdote along the way. If you do use HSBC though, write in to us because this is the second person I've ever met.
