Amy Castro (2:47)
Hello.
Kit Lindsay (2:48)
Hi, Carm.
Carm Capriotto (2:49)
Kit and I had a discovery call and a technology call, making sure that we can make all this stuff work from his hanger. And when he said hanger to me, I ultimately said, is this where airplanes are?
I wasn't quite sure.
Amy Castro (3:07)
As many do. As many do.
Carm Capriotto (3:09)
Very good. And oh my god, so we'll probably share a little bit of the airplane story and this other little secret life that he has going on with that.
But Kit, Lindsay, how many, 40 years in Lindsay Transmissions?
Kit Lindsay (3:24)
Yeah, I started this shop in 1984, day after Thanksgiving. I ran it up until 2021, so 37 years, and then I sold it to an employee that had worked for me for seven years.
A few years before I sold it, he expressed interest in buying, so we sat down and worked out a plan, and we stuck to our plan, and it went through without a hitch.
Carm Capriotto (3:47)
That was an internal candidate who approached you, you approached him. How did it work?
Kit Lindsay (3:51)
I had a young man, he was 16 years old when he came to work for me. His grandfather told him, he said, I need you to hire my grandson, he's bouncing around out here at the farm. So I hired him to sweep the floor, and slowly but surely he was interested in cars. So anyway, his interest got higher and higher. He said he wanted to be a welder.
And so I still remember the day one of my really good friends with Kansas City Pipe Pitter's Union was in my shop. I introduced him to Cody and said something about him really welding as well, since he's working for you and you know him all about him, we'll get him into the welding school. And Kansas City just ride in and that was a huge deal. During that six months, he asked me, what do you do with this place? And I said, I don't know, probably work here till I die because nobody's coming out of the woodwork to buy a transmission shop. And he said, well, what if I bought it? And I said, well, we could do that, but you're going to have to learn an awful lot about the business side. I said, you know how to fix cars. He said, well, I've been interested in doing that. So, okay. So we sat down and really had an in-depth interview on what he understood.
